Building

  • Clone this git repository
  • Download Apples Dictionary Development Kit (The packages is called "Auxiliary Tools for Xcode")
  • Copy the "Dictionary Development Kit" somewhere and adjust the Makefile accordingly
  • make
  • Optional make validate (you need to install jing for that)
  • make install

Caveats

  • Only the first entry is displayed in pop-up mode instead of all (e.g. "boken" shows only "beech") but you will see all of them in dictionary.app.

Thanks to

Philipp Brauner who build an English <-> German dictionary which I have used now for a couple of years. His plugin gave me the idea to build an English <-> Swedish one. You can find his English <-> German one here.

macfolket's Issues

[Feature Request] Make it installable with HomeBrew cask

First, thanks for providing this dictionary. Very much appreciated!

I have an idea for making it easier to access and use. It would make it a lot easier of this package was installable as a HomeBrew cask. Then on a new computer one could do simply $ brew install macfolket, or even put this in one's standard setup script or Brewfile.

It would probably mean to package this differently as a cask should not pop up an UI installation dialog but handle it in CLI only.

Show all fields in the pop-up window

Hi,

According to the screenshot shown on the home page, one should be able to see in the pop-up window all the fields of the word being looked up such as Uttal, Word class, Böjningar, and so on. For some reason, my Dictionary shows only the Definition and Example fields. Here is an example:

blue

I’m wondering if there is some kind of a knob somewhere in System Preferences or Dictionary’s settings that could be used to turn on showing all information. Or is it due to some changes in El Capitan? Thanks!

Best,
Ivan

Several issues with pronunciation

Hello,

The following screenshot demonstrates a number of issues with pronunciation:

  • the sj sound gets replaced by the dollar sign,
  • the underscore gets replaced by the plus sign, and
  • the superscript in the second alternative is not properly formatted.

skjorta

Regarding the first problem, try to look up words with the tj sound like tjugo; the sound will be erroneously represented by the letter c.

Regards,
Ivan
