website's Issues

Update the main asciinema clip

The jumbotron asciinema recording at https://helix-editor.com/ is a little dated at this point: there are some changes in the UI that are missing in the video. At some point we should re-record the clip to show off some newer flashy features like soft-wrap.

Show year on news page

Helix has existed for several years, so it makes sense to show the year on the news page,
to allow one to tell when a given news was actually published.

22.03 Release announcement doesn't say what Helix is

This Week in Rust mentions the Helix 22.03 release, nice exposure for the product. But the linked blog post doesn't say what Helix is! It wasn't obvious; I thought maybe Helix is a language for web services with a REPL ๐Ÿ˜•. The phrase "text editor" doesn't appear.

The second sentence of every communication about a project should be a concise standard statement of what the project is. "Helix is a language-aware text editor that operates on multiple selections." or something. It will make bystanders and search engines aware of what your project does, beyond just its name. Good luck with Helix.

On the helix website within the 'keymaps' tab, i think the text for delete_char_forward should read "Delete next char" ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Add "space" mode remapping instructions

This issue should really be added to the documentation:

"How to remap keys into the 'space' mode?"

helix-editor/helix#2844

I would have submitted a PR myself. However, it appears to me that keys.insert or other modes may be possible as well? I don't know. I would be good to have an exhaustive explanation added. I found the discussion by googling my problem after looking through the docs first.

Cursorline vs Statusline in current release news

Hi There

I love the new features ๐Ÿฅณ .
In the news article section "mode colors", I think it should be
ui.statusline.{insert,normal,select}
instead of
ui.cursorline.{insert,normal,select}
But I might be reading it wrong.

The latest release note shows an inline diagnostics feature not in helix 23.10

In the latest release notes for 23.10 https://helix-editor.com/news/release-23-10-highlights/ the section on smart tabs contains a gif with the inline diagnostics from this PR helix-editor/helix#6417 which doesn't actually represent helix at this point. Someone reading these release notes would assume that this feature exists, when it doesn't.

That someone was me, i spent a bunch of time digging through config options and docs trying to figure out how to turn that on ๐Ÿ˜…

If it's possible maybe please replace that gif with one that doesn't include the feature. It's not a huge deal but it causes unnecessary confusion.

Congrats on 23.10 btw :)

Add download link to nav bar

On some resolutions or browser window sizes, the "Install Now" button can't be seen when loading the page, so the user must scroll to download it. This can be discouraging as it makes it harder to install quickly.
I propose adding the same link to the Nav Bar at the top of the page, labelled "Download" so it is easier to download, and brings it more in line with other websites.
