It needs to be clarified that what you saw is not playlist, it's sth like file-manager.

mpv does don't have this feature natively, but there is some scripts could finish this job. I think you may need it. https://github.com/Eisa01/mpv-scripts#simplehistory

For some reason it always gets stuck at the last episode of some series and once I finish the next series, it gets stuck on that one, on the last episode.

Need more info. I cannot understand what happened here. Assuming you were tallking about --save-position-on-quit, currently it could clean records only when it played to the end. If you quit before EOF, it always remembered the position where you quit... I just committed a workaround to improve this suituation, ref 594f789#diff-9c8433a18e1291a8e867c0a89ae51b8702be52e1786a597cffd680360e677339 .

Commit you mention does not seem to help, but the SimpleHistory you linked with startup_idle_behavior=resume does exactly what I want. Thank you
