Why?

we want to build a community by sharing everything we’ve learned about making professional 360 videos over the last 3 years. right now, there is very little documentation on the process, from start to finish, for creating narrative virtual reality films. by writing "making360" our goal is to help those who are excited about exploring new storytelling techniques by aiding in skipping the initial hazing process. by sharing our experiences, we will be able to speed up your learning curve. creating 360 videos is very intense and detailed so we’re here to walk you through it!

Who is this book for?

artists, pioneers, adventurers, astronauts, cowboys and cowgirls; basically anyone who wants to start experimenting on this new medium can join us. we have paved a path and laid stepping stones across this great divide for you to cross the river and join us in exploring a new land! we are sharing every tip and trick we have painfully learned ourselves so you can skip right to having fun. we only ask that you remember to come back and share your findings with everyone so we can build a community!

Setting up your build environment

Mac

To compile the book on Mac OS X, it is recommended that you install MacTex from this link: https://tug.org/mactex/

MacTex will come packaged with a LaTex editor that can be used to compile the book. The team behind the book have used Sublime Text 3.0 with the additional package named LaTexTools to compile the book directly from Sublime Text, a very beautiful text editor.

Windows

To compile the book on Windows, it is recommended that you install TeX Live from this link: http://www.tug.org/texlive/acquire-netinstall.html

Be sure to follow the installation instructions carefully.

The team behind the book have used Sublime Text 3.0 with the additional package named LaTexTools to compile the book directly from Sublime Text, a very beautiful text editor.

Compiling the book

When you have setup your build environment, open the file "latex/making360.tex", and compile it (press Command + B via Sublime). This file routes all the separate chapter files and builds the book. Whenever you make changes to the specific chapter files in "latex/chapters/", do not try to compile the specific chapter you've edited. Instead, you need to compile "latex/making360.tex".
