This seems to be an issue actually both with log messages going to stdout and to the logfile:
(ngas_devel3.8) [rtobar@bolano ngas]---> ngamsArchiveClient -host 127.0.0.1 -port 7777 -rootDir root -v 5

Moreover, this is not specific to the ngamsArchiveClient
binary, but to all logging functions used by the C libraries/binaries. For example, ngamsCClient
also shows this behavior (after implementing the missing support for the -v
argument):
(ngas_devel3.8) [rtobar@bolano ngas]---> ngamsCClient -host 127.0.0.1 -port 7777 -cmd STATUS -v 5

A fix for this issue has been now put into the master
