Nice feature addition I think.
Having all the links come from domain.com/wp-content/uploads/... just doesn't feel right. It would be nice to create a custom root-level folder for all these uploads. Something like:

Let's not get all crazy about uploads. Let's give common sense limits. Here's my suggestion:
Admins who want to give free mp3's or mpeg4's can zip them up which is best practice anyway.
