provim's Issues

Airline not showing correct fonts.

Are there any additional installs more then moving .vimrc and .vim to home directory to get the proper looking fonts for airline? Also my theme does not look the same as the image in the book.

I see in the .vimrc file that you activate power line fonts but do i also need to install them then or are they included in your repo?

Unrendered character and unwanted echo of last command after setup

Hi,

Purchased your book from a Humble Bundle a while back. Been popping in and out of it in an attempt to ease into vim. Just recently switched from Linux Mint 17.3 where I had you're .vimrc and parts of your .zshrc mixed with my zprezto settings. Truthfully, had no real idea what I was doing there, but it worked. Now I'm in UbuntuStudio 16.04 with Xfce DE. Still using zsh as my default shell and have cloned my fork of ProVim which seems to work just fine when vim is open. Only difference is now I'm using oh-my-zsh. After each command I enter into terminal I get something like kcd% preceding any output to terminal. It didn't start doing this until after I'd followed your book's instructions for vim installation and configuration; which doesn't make sense. It should be something in .zshrc, I'd think, only I never actually touched that except to add export TERM = 'screen-256color'. Any ideas on where to look? Nothing seemed obvious to me. Thanks in advance.

Use of rvm for ruby selection is broken

Hi, just getting into your proVIM and after switching to zsh and installing your .zshrc on my MacbookPro running 10.11.6, I cannot run rvm. Output result is:
± rvm use ruby-2.2.4

RVM is not a function, selecting rubies with 'rvm use ...' will not work.

You need to change your terminal emulator preferences to allow login shell.
Sometimes it is required to use /bin/bash --login as the command.
Please visit https://rvm.io/integration/gnome-terminal/ for an example.

.vimrc errors:

There are a few errors I see appearing recently. Could not find the reason as it has been working fine for long.

  • Could not find colorscheme Tomorrow-Night
  • Error detected while processing /Users/iqbal/.vim/bundle/vim-css-color/after/syntax/vim.vim:
  • E117: Unknown function: css_color#init
  • Error detected while processing /Users/iqbal/.vim/bundle/vim-polyglot/after/syntax/vim.vim:

Colours when using "ls" command?

Hi,
Recently I finished reading "The Linux Command Line" and went all in on Linux. One of the chapters in the book is called "A gentle introduction to Vi". After reading it and looking at youtube videos I decided that I need to be using Vim. That is when I found your book.

Until I started reading your book I was using bash as my shell like a sucker. I changed to zsh and used your ".zshrc" config file to set everything up. The only problem I am having and am not able to work myself through is getting colours when using the "ls" command. It would make my life so much easier if the things were coloured differently when listed.

I am running Manjaro/XFCE and using Terminator as my terminal emulator.

Any chance you could shed some light on my problem?

Thank you,
Ægir Æxx.

Incorrect characters

Hello. Please, help me. After I copied .vimrc and .vim folder in my home directory, incorrect characters began to appear when I try to use vim keystrokes. Thanks in advance.

Better Clarification Of .terminal Files

I've been going through your book "ProVim" and ran into something that I believe should be better clarified.

In "Choosing A New Theme For Your Terminal", it should be specified that you can only open the .terminal files if you're running MacOS. I'm using Ubuntu Linux and could not get the file to open. It was't until I did some research on the internet that I found out about MacOS and .terminal files.

Since you gave options for installing vim on Linux and Windows, I think there should be a section describing how you will not be able to use the .terminal files unless you're running MacOS.

Apart from this the book has been great so far!
