iris-electron's Issues

Feature Request: System Tray

Im on Linux here. Iris does not show up in the sys-tray. Therefore, Iris cant be hided to tray in order to free up the taskbar :/

So I've no clue if on other platforms there's a sys-tray but here with Linux there is not.

Iris-2.1.0.AppImage
MX 19.4 (patito feo) , Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)

Note: Im not sure but I think I used to have a sys-tray with Iris previous version. Am I wrong?

Scrolling issue

Scrolling does not provide a good user experience.

I think the media content breaks scrolling. Anyhow, when I scroll through old post its far from been smooth. The scroll jumps around which makes it a pain to scroll through old post.

I wonder if hiding the heavy content could help fixing the scroll issue. What if the media content would be hiding and a "reveal content" sort of clickable link that would open and hide the content.

May be that could fix the jumpy scrolling. Just a thought.

Switch account: Crash if backup JSON structure is pasted into field

The Iris app disappears/crashes when the backup JSON structure that includes public and private keys is pasted into the "Paste a private key" field. It would be nice if the UI had an "choose file" where I could pick the exported .txt file. It's not easy for the average user to understand how to restore accounts as it is now. It doesn't work to simply paste the private key into the field either, clicking enter on keyboard does nothing.

I can't restore the account I made using the web app inside the desktop app.

Current way to add friends causes issue

Send friend request instead of both side exchanging profile links.

Better scenario:

1- Bob post his Iris profile link on his website.

2- Alice copy Bob profile from Bob website

3- Now Alice can follow Bob. (Alice will now receive feeds from Bob, but they cant private message yet. Bob doesnt know Alice at this point)

4- Now Alice send friend request to Bob.

5- Bob receive a friend request from Alice.

6- Bob accepts Alice friend request. (Therefore, by accepting Alice friend request, Bob is now following Alice)

7- Now Alice and Bob can send private messages to eachother and Bob will now receive feeds from Alice.

Feature Request: Right click to copy ID's

Hi. With the new mention feature it would be very handy to be able to right clicking on a profile name in order to copy the profile ID and the mention ID.

Im thinking a drop down menu list with both ID choices.

The mentions feature is a great feature. Thanks!

Issue sync between users

I have sync issue with message and home section.
Im testing between my laptop and desktop on same local network.

Message section contact show offline and message sync is not good. Missing msg and/or take very long.
Same in the home section. Adding a msg on a post hasnt synced yet here.

I wonder it might be firewall related. Whats the ports I need to open to test? Is it persistent or new ports at every launch? From what Im seeing its tcp only, correct?

Comment not created

Happened twice so far. I had to create 3x the same comment in order for the comment to be created.

Iris-1.6.2.AppImage
OS: MX 19.3 (patito feo) x86_64 based Debian GNU/Linux 10 (buster)
SysV init version: 2.93
Kernel: 4.19.0-14-amd64

Allowing port in firewall / port forwarding

I'd like to test the sync performance when allowing Iris port in my firewall and port forwarding the port in modem.

Which exact port is Iris using ? I see a few ports here, not sure which is the exact port Iris needs.

Is it random at restart or its a default port ?

Also, is it tcp, upd or I need to allow for both

Thanks!
