svn-archive's Introduction

svn.openstreetmap.org archive

svn.openstreetmap.org was the historical subversion code repository for the OpenStreetMap.org project.

The svn.openstreetmap.org code respository was started in 2004 and gradually replaced by individual project specific git code repositories from around 2010 onward. The svn.openstreetmap.org code repository was closed for new contributions in 2020. Most projects had already moved to hosting their code elsewhere by then.

Steve Coast's initial code was the first code added to svn.openstreetmap.org back in August 2004, 4 days before the first blog post. Over the next 16 years 340+ developers would contribute to multiple OpenStreetMap related projects hosted on svn.openstreetmap.org

svn.openstreetmap.org was converted to a git code repository hosted on Github in 2022 as a way to preserve a part of OpenStreetMap's history.
