preenfm3's Issues

Sequencer insert note after clearing

I was exploring the sequencer and I noticed one weird behavior. If you insert an empty space (button 1), then it is no longer possible to dial in a note in that space. You can only insert notes in the space again after clearing the whole pattern.

avoid wiki docs

This is a good step forward and please continue this way.

There is one issue that I would urge to change: avoid the wiki. Wikis look attractive (especially their menu system) but they have a major problem: they cannot be kept in sync with branches/code changes, because they are separate repositories. (And I'm more and more inclined to think that this is a fundamental issue with wikis on GitHub.)

Wiki-like pages can just as well be created in (e.g.) a wiki/ folder under https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm3. this will allow to keep "wiki" pages and code in sync, because changes in firmware will sometimes impose changes in wiki pages, but because the commit/release cycles are different, there will be a need to keep wiki and code somehow in line during such transitions. branches are the natural way to deal with this: in a branch, code and wiki pages are updated at the same time, and this tight linking provides an additional bit of documentaiton. Also, this allows anyone that tracks the code to also detect changes in the wiki, and it bundles really all project information in one single repository that can easily be cloned.

Admitted, the wiki provides nice menus, that a normal page won't (but you can also benefit from markup in normal pages, e.g. by using .rst an an example).

(I'm not sure about https://github.com/Ixox/preenfm2Controller - I'm tempted to think that the system and the editor are tightly linked, so they should live in the same repo. in other words: can the editor live a life without the synth? I don't think so. the synth could do without the editor, but is that a reason to split off the editor? I don't think so).

Program Change reverts to preen presets even if dx7 preset is loaded.

(This is my current understanding) When I load a dx7 sysex file, I would expect program change messages to select patches from the same dx7 file; however, it appears that PC messages only select patches from whatever the current/last preen bank is currently selected.

Looks like the relevant code is here:

Firmware license

Hi,

What license is the firmware?
E.g if I wanted to use parts of the code in a GPL/MIT project would this be allowed?

output settings

when i output a voice to output 1 i am getting audio on port 2? any ideas?

Rework the documentation

Hey there,

I'm currently waiting to get my hands on a PreenFM3, but I did notice quite a few issues with the documentation of this project.

In general I noticed that a lot of crucial information for buyers like me is all over the place. For example finding out about the stereo behavior of this device is really difficult. Half of that information is in the build guide, and the other half is explained in the Mixer Section, neither of which I expected to find where they are.

Please collect the hardware information and general capabilities in a new wiki page to make it clearer what you can, and cannot do.

Thanks!

EDO Scala scales don't work

All equal division of octave (EDO) scl files that I've tried don't work. Other scl files, such as the ones in Sevish's tuning pack archive (e.g. 5 EDphi), work fine. I've tried both keyboard and continuous mode, as well as unix and dos line endings for the tuning file.

To reproduce, export this scale as scl and place into the pfm3/scala directory on the SD card. When loaded, it plays as standard 12-edo rather than 24-edo.

I don't think this is a problem with how Scale Workshop exports scales, as I've compared the scl file that it generates for 24-edo with other scl files I have and can't spot any differences in syntax.

I am using firmware v0.110.
