This experimental command, exec, doesn't work all the time with some programs.

Example

$ slate get mysql
mysql.server start
$ slate exec mysql
Starting MySQL
... ERROR! The server quit without updating PID file (/usr/local/var/mysql/your-machine.local.pid).
$ mysql.server start
... SUCCESS!

Maybe is better to switch to the default rust stdlib to control external commands.

The idea is to use the env var $SLATE_PATH to set an optional path to a directory where to put the .slate file. This was you can have different .slate files per project.

It would be nice to have the possibility to encrypt the ~/.slate file. This can be an optional feature and could be implemented as a different backend, i.e: Plain (what is there now) and Encrypt (the new one).
