The basic need here and initial point is backing a geonode to a data directory. So in the event one needs to back up to a data directory named /data. they would simply execute
$geonode-backup localhost /data

This would create a zipped directory structure with the geoserver data directory and the database dump.

One could back up to a remote destination. This could be an external harddrive with an ip or another server with a different ip.

In this case entails mirroring two geonode instances. This includes providing the address of the remote instance and adding a flag that its an actual GeoNode to enable pushing of the data to the appropriate directories unlike the back up.

On backing up successfully we need to do reverse where once can restore their GeoNode set up from a back up. All one needs to do is to run the script with the location of the backup directory to perform the back up.

$geonode-backup /data/geonodebackups/GeoNode_2011_Nov_4_.tar

This untars the file and returns the the platfrom to the state it was in. The back up will have the following.
-The database dump
-The geoserver directory
-The templates directory
-The local_settings file
