TileProviders

Provider map tiles in a Provider object.

Complete urls to tiles can be retrieved with geturl(provider::Provider, x::Int, y::Integer, z::Integer).

A custom provider can be defined with, for example:

Some providers will need an apikey, accesstoken, app_code or subscriptionkey keyword if registration is required to use the dataset. See the docs for the function.

To get the specific urls from a Provider use:

TileProviders.geturl(provider, x, y, z)

Get a dictionary of all Providers and their variants with:

TileProviders.list_providers()

Providers are retrieved from leaflet via geopandas repository: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/geopandas/xyzservices/main/provider_sources/leaflet-providers-parsed.json

TagBot trigger issue

This issue is used to trigger TagBot; feel free to unsubscribe.

If you haven't already, you should update your TagBot.yml to include issue comment triggers.
Please see this post on Discourse for instructions and more details.

I'll open a PR within a few hours, please be patient!

tag new release

The current release is currently outdated, hence having a new one would be nice. Plus, CartoDB would work with Tyler.

[feature request] add isonline(provider)

or ishealthy(provider), healthcheck(provider), that makes sure the connection is stable, so we can check before downloading lots of tiles and then getting long wait times and lots of retries/connection errors at once.

Test all tile providers

A lot of them dont actually work

Allow Rasters.jl rasters to be made from tiles

Would this be possible? We could integrate TileProviders as a RasterDataSource, and return Raster{RGB, 2} or something like this, possibly using image stitching.

Stamen Maps has Moved

As of October 31, 2023, Stamen Maps are no longer available at the Fastly URL that they currently point to. The tile server is now hosted by Stadia Maps:

https://tiles.stadiamaps.com/tiles/{variant}/{z}/{x}/{y}{r}.{ext}

Where variant is now stamen_toner, stamen_toner_background, etc.

Since there is already a Stadia TileProvider, I imagine the path forward will be removing Stamen as a tile provider and adding the stamen variants to TileProviders.Stadia.

CartoDB basemaps

From the CartoDB webpage https://carto.com/basemaps/ I see that there plenty more options than the ones in the current version here. Is it because they not supported or? how can we add more :D, there some really nice ones.

Add NASA Mars, Moon and Vesta tile providers

https://api.nasa.gov/#:~:text=Vesta/Moon/Mars%20Trek%20WMTS are web map tile services which let you get this stuff. We should add them to TileProviders! It should be simple to implement as an example for the docs as well.
