cookies-exterminator's Issues

Cookie leftovers found by CCleaner

If I scan for cookies with CCleaner, after exterminating cookies with your add-on, they still show up in CCleaner with their name and 0KB in size. In Pale Moon these cookies are not found anymore though. I don't know what internal process CCleaner uses for cookie searching, but this worries me a bit. If I clean the cookies with CCleaner, they do stop showing in the results.

In the add-on config I have enabled all three 'clear' options (default setting), and enabled 'active mode'.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. visit github.com
  2. close browser window
  3. restart browser to verify cookie is removed from browser
  4. use CCleaner and scan section: Firefox -> Cookies
  5. github.com cookie shown in results window

Version for Waterfox Current?

Absolutely my favorite cookie extension and use daily in Waterfox Classic. Palemoon version does not seem to work in Waterfox Current. Any chance of a port? Cannot find anything that comes close. Thanks.

[suggestion]click on addon icon to set mode

Thanks for developing this addon as SDC is sadly no longer being developed. Would it be possible to implement the option to just click on the addon's icon to set the mode? so for example: 1st click on icon, the site is whitelisted and the icon turns green. 2nd click on icon: Keep until browser exit is set and icon turns brown. 3rd click: Clean as soon as possible and icon turns red. Or only have the first option enabled that way (whitelist). The menu could then still be used using a right click on the icon (or you can set the icon clicks on the right mouse button).

Keep up the great work!

Separate timer for cookies from visited sites

Thank you very much for that nice addon!
I think to make it generally usable for useres who are not cookie/web-tech aware, there should be a second timer which handles cookies from visited sites.

Advantage: Lazy Users don't nedd to bother with grey/whitelists
Disadvantage: JustOff unpaid time
Effort: Medium to low I guess: CE determines if cookies are to be deleted by the status of "open" URLs, so all information should be present already and it's just about adding the timer, the logic and a user changable preferences option.

Example:
Say I visit www.inter.net and get cookies from singleklick.net, inter.net and some more.
Now if I get redirected from www.inter.net to pay.3rdpartybank.net, I'd love to see cookies beeing deleted after 10 seconds which came from singleklick.net, but the ones which came from inter.net shouldn't be deleted before a much longer timeout lapses - say 10 minutes. So I can safely pay and return within 10 minutes without having to remember to switch to grey!

clears cookies, but not /storage/default

Linux
FF 55.2.0
CE 2.9.0
cookie policy: allow 1st party, deny 3rd party
no site permissions set

i notice when i visit YouTube it's adding an object in /storage/default and CE isn't clearing it - it is removing the cookies however

Reset button not working

Trying to reset Options and clear the Whitelist but the Reset button doesn't seem to do anything.

CE 2.9.4, Pale Moon 28.0.0b5 x64 (2018-08-01), Windows 10

Minor translation mistake

When I import data in the german localiization it reports "Successful export"
At least it confused me to run a second import, hoewever it did the job anyway.

Cookies are not deleted in Waterfox

Waterfox 56.2.2, CE 2.9.4, active mode is on, clear session cookies on, clear local storage on, clear indexed db on.
Cookies are not deleted when tabs are opened but not used.

not working on latest firefox nightly

I am using firefox nightly. i have legacy extensions enabled. the icon isn't showing up. if I open preferences it won't let me put on automatic mode. says i need to have something in whitelist. try to add and looks ok, but if i open preferences again the item i added isn't there.

Cookies exceptions

Does "Cookies Exterminator" delete white listed cookies.
eg, I am perpetually logged into Palemoon, and sevearl other forums.

Thank you

Reset button doesn't work in option page

I have Firefox ESR 52.9, Windows 10 and Cookies Exterminator 2.9.4.

Open the cookies exterminator option page. On top we have the tabs: Options, Whitelist, Greylist, Redlist and Log. On bottom we have the tabs: Reset, Accept and Cancel.

Pressing the Reset option and accept it doesn't change the values to default.

Feature requests: Notifications

I have two requests regarding the windows notifications. The first is to add an option to adjust the duration, to allow it to be adjust so the pop-up doesn't stay, blocking the bottom-right corner of the screen and browser, for so long. The second is an option to not show notifications that state it's suppressing a duplicate notification; showing one notification to say that it's not showing another notification seems pointless and is needlessly distracting.

By the way, I wasn't sure whether to post this here or on mozillazine, since this is where the support link in the "More information" section on AMO leads to, but in the description it lists mozillazine as the support site. I tried to register there but was unable, as it kept saying my answer to the bot-check question was wrong. I also don't care for the fact it's http only and only allows up to a 30-character password, so frankly, I'd just prefer to not bother with it.

Reducing crushing delay under 10 seconds

Could the crushing delay be reduced under 10 seconds?
Any reason for this minimal delay?

I can enter a lower delay in the options field, but it resets to 10 when closing the options window by clicking 'Accept'.

Toolbar button changes status bar behavior

hey JustOff. found this small bug when i decided to move the CE toolbar button to the status bar, and then hiding the status bar (Ctrl - /). after each restart of the browser, the status bar becomes visible by itself despite hiding it before restarting. disabling CE fixes this behavior

W10 x64, CE 2.9.4, PM 28.1.0

Easier To See Toolbar Icons?

Summary

I love it this add-on. It's easy to use.

This ticket is a suggested new feature for Cookies Exterminator version 2.9.2. The Firefox add-on at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/cookies-exterminator/

Any volunteer for a patch for that new feature? The team at Ubertus.org would be happy to contribute testing and documentation.

User Story

As a user of Cookies Exterminator, when "Active mode" is disabled, on large screen, I need to be able easily and quickly see the toolbar icon colors, so that I know the present color. Green, or brown, or red.

Assumptions

  • Assumes this screenshot below shows the challenge. This is the present green icon for whitelist. When "Active move" is disabled. Notice that the toolbar icon design color is small and hard to see on large screens. It is a tiny dot inside a circle. It does work :) But it is just hard to see :(
    screenshot---challenge---2018-05-20---selection_001---francewhoa
  • Assumes by large screen we means 24 inches or more
  • Assumes using:
    • Add-on 2.9.2
    • Firefox or Tor Browser 52.8.0 (64-bit)
    • Debian 8 Jessie 64-bit
    • GNOME 3.14.1

Options to consider

The following are options to consider to improve the usability

Option 1

How about a bigger design inside the toolbar icon? How about a bigger circle?
mockup---suggestion---2---2018-05-20---selection_001---francewhoa

Option 2

On color change, change the whole icon color. Instead of changing only the small dot inside the circle. Similar to "Active move" is enabled. Then find another design for "Active move" is disabled. How about a small square around the top right? With a toggle design. With the letter "A" for "Activated", and the letter "D" for "Deactivated/Disabled".

Note

I understand this add-on is no longer develop for Firefox 57+. While at the same time this add-on is still useful and working fine with some browsers with long term support (LTS or ESR). Such as the present Tor Browser and Firefox 52.x.

Cookies and storage not removed when navigating to chrome url

hi JustOff - i realize with the transition to WebExtensions that you may no longer be supporting CE, but we'll give it a try anyway...

for example, let's say we have youtube.com opened in a tab - if i then load a chrome:// URI in that same tab, the youtube storage is not removed

waterfox 56.1.0 (supports legacy extensions)
CE 2.9.0

No icon in Waterfox G3

Just installed in Waterfox G3 and cannot find the icon! I have it in Classic, love it. My favorite cookie manager. Would love it to work in G3, but at a loss for the icon. Can you help?

[question] extension styling for notification

Hi there,

Do you know what specific values would be needed to change the notification to black background and white text? I've tried some various generic user styles for extensions, they don't work for this.

The legacy dark backgrounds light text turns it black, it's too slow though for it and it still appears white originally, so it must be possible if using a legacy style theme manager.

I couldn't find the value I was looking for when I was looking at the source, but I'm no developer.

Appreciate your time, thanks for your hard work.
