FAR

Fix (NieR) Automata Resolution

PSA: Incompatibility with the latest versions of the game!

This is the original version of FAR, developed back in 2017 for the original Steam version of the game. Since then the Steam version have being extensively updated in 2021, with the game releasing on the Microsoft Store as well. The versions listed here is not compatible with those updated copies of the game, and requires an original 2017 version of the game to function.

  • If you want to use FAR with an updated copy of the game, please see the official Special K wiki for instructions on how to install an updated copy of FAR for those versions.

  • If you want to downgrade your Steam copy to the 2017 version, you can do so by following the downgrade instructions provided by the LodMod creator over on Nexus.


What follows below is the original readme file for the 2017 version of FAR:

Main Features

  • Fixes native fullscreen resolution
  • Allows adjusting Global Illumination for a performance boost.
  • Allows adjusting the resolution of Bloom and Ambient Occlusion effects to the current framebuffer resolution.
  • Includes a freecam look.
  • Includes a framerate unlocker.

Framerate Unlocker

The framerate unlocker is known to break cutscenes and scripting in the game. Use at your own risk!

Steps to enable the framerate unlocker:

  1. Disable V-Sync in-game
  2. Disable the built-in frame limiter of FAR (set it to 0)
  3. Enable Remove 60 FPS Cap
  4. (optional) Edit RefreshRate=-1 in dxgi.ini to override the default 60 Hz refresh rate of the game.

How to combine with Reshade?

I tried it old UnX way

None works. Judging by lack of log file from reshade, special k does not even load it.

Can you please document how special K import works with all possible values and features?
And i really hope filename supports relative path, because reshade and some other dlls like this works when they have same as special k use, so the only way to keep 2 dlls with same name is to move one into subfolder.

Can't click accept on the SLA prompt/It doesn't disapear.

The Software agreement stays on top no matter what I do. I can briefly (1sec) make it disappear by ctrl+shift+O, but it comes back every time and makes it impossible to play. Funnily enough the prompt disappears (but not the HUD) when I go off screen, or change focus to another app while windowed.

Have to say that I get a vibration on the controller when I click accept, and the button is highlighted but it never goes through.

Is there a way to disable it in the config file ? if so which option and in which file is it ?

Also I have manually installed FAR latest ver (0.5.6 [Patch Fix] - 5/8/17)

Locked at 60fps since 0.5.2

Steam overlay FPS counter shows 60 FPS, as does the FAR OSD in the top left, though it shows the actual FPS at the end of the same line (which varies between 60 and 300+ depending on what screen I'm on).

Idea: Force Reshade Output into pre UI render stage

Im pretty sure its possible to hook Reshade and inject its render pass in before game UI to make sure MXAO and other depth effects dont bleed.

But here is the catch - if you will make this, make sure that Reshade is (but please let it be comfigurable) still rendered above pre-rendered cutscene layer for color corrections and other non depth effect to apply.

Actually it will good idea to make somehow smart detection if shader usess depth effect or not and push it before UI or after, but yet again, behaviour should be fuly configurable so we can select when and how to render everything.

Game wont start

Today tried starting Nier but the game just wont start. Steam does say its running but no window pops. Worked fine yesterday though had some issues with the mod update. How to fix?

SKIM64 installer doesn't work properly

Hello,
FAR works beautifully but i'm having some problems with installer. Mainly It seems like it doesn't know that it successfully installs the mod. If i delete the dxgi.dll it creates it and when i launch the game it works but i can't uninstall nor install beta version.

EDIT: Global Special K also doesn't work. When I launched a game through Steam i got autoupdate popup and updated files but it doesn't seem to be loaded at all on subsequent launches. Hotkeys don't work and OSD doesn't show up. But when i hold Ctrl+Shift the compatibility popup shows up but when I press OK it just closes the game.

Can't install Special K

Tried installing both the FAR mod and Special K through the auto-install on steam. FAR seems to install, but when I try to install Special K, it gives me an install pending pop-up that says it will install when I run a steam game. When I try to run Nier, it plays the M.G.S. detected sound and doesn't run. I'm new to installing mods, so is there something I need to do first, or am doing wrong?

How to change global illumination to low?

Hi,

I tried the mod and use ctrl+shit+backspace to open an UI in the game. But the framereate is still low as before. I heard to change the global illumination to low could help. So could you let me know how can I do this in the game or do I modify some codes in a certain file?

[Request] Mod Feature

You can write a support to replace the game text on render? to create something like a "soft" translation...
the nier use mruby into your files, i don't know anything about the ruby, of course your vm too...
So I had the idea of requesting a resource to allow replacing the text of some "database" at the time of rendering... (Menu, and cutscene(in video only) are unneeded, have a easy format)

Mouse ssues in overlay menu

Updating to 5.6.1 completely messes up the mouse for me when trying to select options in the overlay menu. I've got the game running in bordered mode @1080p and my native res is 1440p.

Also, pressing the "exit" button for the menu in the top right hand corner causes my USB 360 controller to continuously vibrate. If only I had a gf who could make use of this feature.

Chinese character set

Hello, this interface settings can not support Chinese characters, I downloaded the SpecialK, but not familiar with the C++ and CEGUI, can only compile, and can not be modified.

Mouse is invisible in the menus

I got an achievement and FAR gave me a popup. My controls locked up and were non-responsive. Every now and then a key press would register but that's it (a movement key for example D would register and lock up so the character would just keep on moving right). I could not get to the menu so I force-quit the game with alt+f4. When I restarted the game the mouse was invisible in menus. If you hover over the optionsvery quickly in the menu, right after the press any button one, you can see the mouse appear for a hundreth of a second . I tried the allways-show mouse option in FAR but then it also shows the mouse in game.

Compiling Error

I'm trying to compile the latest version of FAR myself, but I'm running into an error.

undeclared identifier "SK_PlugIn_ControlPanelWidget"

I think this is because you have not updated the source for SpecialK on GitHub.

Versioning Scheme (in)sanity

Your releases page has many releases per release(?!), including an unversioned release in every release.

How am I supposed to know which one is the right one to download? If I had to guess, you issue the first release file FAR.7z with no version, then abuse filenames to create minor patch versions atop that release.

Releases are releases, minor fixes are new releases, and all filenames should always include what version they are.

Game Crash Randomly -> xinput1_3.dll

I just got Nier and i found this wonderful Tool. But my Game crashes randomly with the Metalgear Sound.
xinput normally indicates a problem with xbox controller, but with or without doesnt matter :(

Cap FPS during hacking minigame

during the hacking minigame, FPS needs to be capped.
the flag 0x1410E0AB4 can be used to check similarly to the ones used for menus.

EDIT: there's also 0x1413FC35C for the shortcuts menu.

1920x1080 on an Ultrawide screen

Since I would rather not play with stretched cutscene moments I was wondering if anyone was able to get this resolution to work properly on fullscreen with this mod.

While running this mod rather then letting my GPU aspect correct it the mod stretches the image out.

Compatibility with Steam Overlay/Controller

Hi all,

I've been having a real struggle getting the tool to work happily with a Steam Controller - it picks up the controller as a standard XBOX type controller, but I'm unable to access or apply configs.

Anyone got any good workarounds?

Will this patch create "FAR.ini"?

Actually I don't really know how to use this patch.
I've heard someone said that this patch will create a file named "FAR.ini".
And I can change the value of Global Illumination Workgroups.
But it didn't.So can someone tell me how to use this patch?

Auto-Updater Popup Cannot Be Interacted With

I'm getting the SpecialK auto-updater window each time I launch the game, and I'm unable to click "Update" or "Remind Me Later". I'm also unable to interact with ANY thing in general until I kill NieR with task manager.

Additional Details: I have FAR configured to force borderless mode, and to center the window.

Stuck in Cutscene Mode with FPS Uncapper Enabled

Occasionally while playing with the FPS Uncapper enabled, the game will fail to exit cutscene mode correctly. When it happens, it leads to strange behavior, and prevents progression in my experiences. Restarting the game and disabling the FPS Uncapper fixes it.

This has happened to me in two instances so far:

  1. The cutscene in path A right before firing the mortar at the giant machine. It gave me control of 2B, but it was still in cutscene mode, so it would not let me interact with the mortar. FAR 0.4.0.3.
  2. During the opening mission of Path B, right after the cut-scene where 9S flies upwards after hacking the four points. The enemies were appearing and attacking, but it was staying in the cutscene mode and I could not move, attack, or take damage. FAR 0.4.1.1.

My specs give me a frame rate that averages 120-144 (max for my monitor) in interior scenes like that, so the unlocked frame rate is being taken advantage of if that matters.

Crashes With OBS

Like the title says, running the game with FAR normally and everything's fine, but as soon as I start up OBS and it begins capturing the game, then there's the Metal Gear alert sound and crashes.
Wasn't an issue beforehand, have streamed a good few hours of it already with OBS, hasn't crashed until just recently.
I dunno how to get any logs or anything if it'd help

Ambient occlusion change breaks motion blur?

It appears that the AO override breaks the motion blur. While the AO tweak is enabled, object motion blur seems to stop working properly.

It's a hard to see in the screenshot, but note that the tree is blurred while 9S is not. The lack of blur around objects is fairly noticeable in-game, but I didn't have much luck capturing a good shot of the out of place blurring. It's slightly more visible with higher resolutions.
