SSH server KUAL extension for jailbroken Kindle Paperwhite (tested on PW4, FW 5.16.3+).
Launches a dropbear SSH server over WiFi so you can shell into your Kindle.
- Copy the entire
kindle-sshfolder to/mnt/us/extensions/kindle-ssh/on your Kindle - Launch from KUAL → Kindle SSH → Start SSH Server
The script uses the system dropbear that comes with USBNetwork hack (most jailbroken Kindles have this). If USBNetwork is not installed, place a statically-linked dropbearmulti ARM binary in bin/.
Optionally, place your SSH public key in bin/auth_key for key-based auth.
ssh root@<kindle-ip>
Default password: root
The Kindle's IP is shown on screen after starting the server.
- Prefers the system dropbear (from USBNetwork hack) if available, falls back to the bundled binary
- Static glibc has NSS issues with
getpwnam()— the script setsLD_LIBRARY_PATHas a workaround - Firewall is opened for port 22 automatically
- Root password is set by remounting rootfs read-write temporarily
