Why was this list created ?

I looked around for such a list and did not find one which does nothing but list all the languages that github supports, so I created one by scraping off the languages from github's trending page, Other: Languages button.

IMPORTANT : There is an official list published and maintained by github.com at languages which contains many other useful information along with basic language listing (Thanks to Dasonk for bringing it to my attention). This repository contains a plain text list of languages for easier readability and listing.

Why is a repo created for the list ?

So that if someone else needs it now or in future, they need not go through creating a list of their own.

Details

• languages.txt contains the language listed by trending page.
• others.txt contains a list of mixed things like colloquial usage of language names like js for javascript, node or nodejs which isn't a separate language but is used to represent a separate class of projects etc.
