vagabond's Introduction

VAGABOND

This Vagabond Website was created by Regelyn Cacho, Ivan Miranda, and Kody Lawton as part of General Assembly's Web Development Immersive program.

Sign in to uncover a community of foodies posting comments and feedback on cities they've been (pre-listed on the website) to and the food around them.

Technology

This web-based application utilizes Ruby v. 2.2.6, Ruby on Rails, and is deployed to Heroku. It also features styling using the Bootstrap library and jquery. Postgresql was used for the database. Bcrypt was used for password encryption.

Future Features

Possible future features include being able to respond to feedback and being able to upload pictures to the profile, comments, and feedbacks easily, probably though an embedded widget such as Uploadcare.

vagabond's Issues

Font Colors

When reaching the homepage, it's not immediately clear that the names of the cities in each panel are clickable. Consider changing the font color for only the names of the cities, indicating that they are interactive, differently than the associated text. Adjusting this will increase usability.

Require better passwords

I'm able to create an account with a really terrible password. Your users' profiles will probably get hacked. There will be a better user experience if everyone's data is protected behind better password validations. Consider implementing a minimum length, perhaps use of symbols or capitalization

UX: tagline

Issue:
It would be more clear to the user if there was a tagline to explain the purpose of the app or how the user can benefit from being a part of the vagabond community

Legibility with font shadows

Issue - difficult to read with the orange text on blue background. So, I get why you used a font shadow for all the text. However, that doesn't really help the user differentiate on what to focus -- if the author, the comment title, comment paragraph--everything has a shadow, it all blends in together.

Suggestions:

  • Make your font an off white with orange hue
  • Only add shadow to your headers
  • Choose a different font type for your paragraphs to differentiate between header & paragraph

Default profile image

It might be funny to us that your default is Nathan's photo...but probably not to a non student user!

Suggestion:
Find a default gravatar img

Text not responsive when resize to mobile

Issue: When you resize the screen to small size, the text seems to get cut-off.

Suggestion: You can make it more responsive by either setting a min width, or making sure all pages are contained in a div container:

Email validation

I can create an email without the latter part: @ some domain

For example:

first name: hello
email: hello

Login success!

"name" twice

On the signup form it says "name" next to the email form".

It could use a favicon for the title tab (displays an empty page icon)
