my english is not so good. im trying to say, when i write ' asd:D ' in your module, text is replacing to emotion. i dont want to this.

can you tell me how can i do this replacement with you module

if else logic is:
text= 'a:D'
if text start with " ' " or ' " ' or . or \s(spaces tabs) text.replace into EMO
else if text end with " ' " or ' " ' or . or , or ! or ? or \s(spaces tabs) text.replace into EMO
else - dont replace the text

Without the "main" property in package.json, I can't seem to require emoticons with Node.

Adding "main": "./lib/emoticons.js", to package.json fixes my issue.

Am I missing something?

In the readme you mention http://factoryjoe.com/projects/emoticons, which includes the animated icons.

Is there any chance those could be added to this project?

In demo html output is not escaped.
for example if you type <img src="https://www.google.pl/images/nav_logo242.png" /> in textbox then demo shows Google logo instead of text
