docs's Issues

Instructor in lod-api-class is not required on errors

as the documentation says the instructor is required, but if i get an error response this key is not given.

examples 1:
client.class_(ClassParameters(id=8))
results in:
{'Error': 'Class not found', 'Status': 0}

example 2:
client.class_()
results in:
{'Error': 'id is a required parameter', 'Status': 0}

required fields are not correct

in some of the api methods the required fields are wrong.

one example:
https://github.com/LearnOnDemandSystems/docs/blob/master/lod/lod-api/lod-api-catalog.md#deliveryregion

in this one the description is required, but in my api result i get a null value:
{"LabSeries":[],"LabProfiles":[],"DeliveryRegions":[{"Id":2,"Name":"Australia","Description":"Servicing Australia, New Zealand, and south APAC"},{"Id":3,"Name":"Europe","Description":"European Datacenter Region"},{"Id":4,"Name":"Infrastructure-Only","Description":"Used to store objects for infrastructure. SHOULD NOT BE ASSIGNED PRODUCTION RESOURCES."},{"Id":1,"Name":"North America","Description":null},{"Id":5,"Name":"US West - Veritas","Description":null}],"Error":null,"Status":1}
in the last two delivery regions the description is null: {"Id":5,"Name":"US West - Veritas","Description":null}

maybe the required and not-requireds are switched, because id an name are always given.

Inconsistent documentation of Bash set_lab_variable.

Description of proposed changes:
Update to correct capitalization in all instances.

The BASH set_lab_variable is incorrectly given as "Set_Lab_Variable" in numerous instances on this document. Using it in an LCA will generate an error.

CEH lab questions

The program is a good teaching software on how to use the tools but the fill in the questions seem to be written by a 9-year-old who doesn't know what to ask. I constantly spend 10 mins or more trying to figure out the exact question you are asking and how exactly you want it typed since its so case sensitive. Please either remove the fill in the questions or have someone else write the questions better and easier to understand.

Here is an example of the issue:
What is the command is used to Filter the HTTP traffic?

500 - Internal Server Error

Hello Support,

I'm getting the error "Status: 500 Internal Server Error" when I run a function inside Azure (last task of the last exercise). I verified the code and it looks good.

Please help!

Could not change keyboard layout (inaccurate help screenshots)

Description of proposed changes:
In the lab VM, my goal was to change the keyboard layout to Belgian (French) whilst keeping the display and system language set to English.

When trying to change the keyboard layout on the VM, the screenshots show on the help document do not match the screens presented in the VM itself.

As a non-Windows specialist, I tried for 30 minutes and made several restarts. Eventually I managed it for Windows apps like Notepad (see screenshot), but not for Power BI.
In Power BI, when I pressed 'a' on my keyboard, the VM stubbornly kept writing 'q'. (my keyboard being AZERTY).

Please expand the documentation in the help section (see link below)

  1. providing accurate screenshots
  2. providing explanation how to make Power BI "listen" to the Windows settings.

Lab VM Screen Resolution Auto-Adjust

When I am using Microsoft Windows VMs they keep adjusting to 800X600 display resolution. I need higher resolutions most of the time. I switch them to a higher resolution in the VM but they switch back to 800X600 when I adjust the environment like going full screen and back or adjust the width of the instruction pane. Very annoying. How can I stop the VMs in your LOD portal from changing back to 800X600????? I am a MCT and this wastes a lot of my teaching time having to switch it so many times..

IDLx Lab Interface Overview

Description of proposed changes:

  1. Chat with Lab Support on line 20
  2. Work in that diff disks/lab changes are also done through Save/Exit menu

Line 20

  • Help: The Help tab allows users to change the theme of the Lab Client, or change the Machine Remote Controller (if the lab has managed VMs). It also provides users with the ID of their lab instance along with other relevant details (depending on the type of lab launched), and links to view a FAQ, submit a support request, or report a bug.

Lab completion

I have the worst experience with all of you. I continuously tried to be in touch with the customer support regarding my lab completion status. But despite helping me they are ignoring the problem. I would never suggest anyone to use your lab on demand facility

Common Style Guidelines are outdated and conflict with current Microsoft Style Guide

Hi,

Description of proposed changes:
The 'Common Style Guidelines' section of the IDLx Authoring Guide references the Microsoft Manual of Style (MMS), 4th edition which, as far as I can tell, is over 11 years old now. There are several contradictions with the current Microsoft Style guide which is available here: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/style-guide/

E.g. "If using the term check box, this is two words." from IDLx docs, which contradicts:
"Use checkbox, not box or check box" from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/style-guide/a-z-word-list-term-collections/c/check-checkbox-check-mark

Also, "Use click rather than choose or select" from IDLx docs, which contradicts this:
"Avoid this verb, which is specific to using a mouse. Instead, use verbs that work with multiple devices, such as select." from https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/style-guide/a-z-word-list-term-collections/c/click

There may be other contradictions.

LOD Life Cycle Action - Execute Custom Script

Description of proposed changes:
Please detail how to specify targets within script. Doc says "Scripts can be executed against a custom target" but does not specify how to identify those targets.

Doc points to a link:

For more information about the available languages, see our Lab on Demand Scripting documentation.

But this link only has a few examples and none of them explain how to specify a "custom target"

I would like to use this to run initial lab setup actions, and keep them contained inside a single script instead of having many lifecycle actions executed against single targets. If this is not possible or not the intended design, then I would suggest to clarify the docs.

Best practice for VM password cannot be followed

In the section Recommendations and Best Practices of the document Use Azure ARM Template for Cloud Slice, item number 6 in the list makes the recommendation to use the @lab.CloudPortalCredential().Password replacement token a VM password.

I wish this were possible; however, the generated password is only 10 characters long, and VMs require a 12 character password so this best practice guidance cannot be followed as written.
