It would be very handy and established good practice to use this library within the standard Maven infrastructure, for this, the project has to be transformed into a Maven project first.
Then it needs a deploy goal so the project can be sent to Maven central.

One of the main strength of BLAKE2 is the tree mode, where hashes for chunks of the input can be computed in parallel, as used in:

Please add support for this feature in the Java library.

Since there is no recent Java implementation of the 64bit-optimized blake2b variant (which is more common these days), why not support it together with this library?
Maybe the project could be merged with the older blake2b project, this would also solve #2 .

Is it all that different or wouldn't it make sense to unify the 2 approaches and select the optimized implementation automatically (via a Java system call or via configuration?
