amazon's Issues

GitHub-activity-like feed for Amazon-activity

The slides contained an activity feed. The scripts to generate these images (from datasets) don't apper to be in this repository.

Additionally: I think this talk had some nice ideas, and it would be cool to extend and automate this process for non-tech-savvy users (who'd benefit from things like an easy-to-digest activity feed):

  • Selective blocking of traffic to Amazon and similar services through browser plugins, by studying and documenting their response to data requests (possibly on a wiki)
  • Simulate storage in local files (which are easy to delete), so we can know what they would know
  • Display an activity feed (like on GitHub and shown in the C3 talk)
  • Highlight and warn users about possibly dangerous or sensitive information they would have leaked
  • Create a platform (possibly as browser-plugin) to display combine this local data, with requested datasets received from Amazon and other larger services. In particular, also give option to automate requests for their datasets by the click of a button (much like you can automate contract cancellation for mobile carrier contracts)

I think tools like this, could be great for raising awareness.

Also related to #2.

(I personally already have too many open-source projects to maintain / contribute to. So aside from possible bugfixes, unfortunately, I won't be able to contribute much)

Repositories and scripts for other services

I think there's various services where similar scripts would be helpful:

  • Google search
  • YouTube
  • gmail
  • Facebook
  • WhatsApp
  • Instagram
  • GitHub
  • ...

I'm currently unable to work on anything myself, and this repository is not the best place to discuss it either.
I do, however, hope that this issue might serve as a way to find volunteers, collect similar resources, or to find a new location where this can be hosted (if no such place exists yet).

(This issue is not directly linked to this repository, so feel free to close it if you think it's offtopic)

Request for sample datasets

I think the community should collect trimmed datasets as samples and document them: which countries support was contacted; when was the dataset requested; when was the dataset received; what is the format of the dataset (transfer medium + file-format); etc.

This would help users to see when Amazon changes their internal practices, or if there might be regional differences as to what the Amazon support is able to provide.

We could also be able to demand all information, if information is (accidentally or intentionally) left out.
