A fork of OpenX with the aim of re-writing, refactoring and generally making something useful from the code. This has now been made unneseccary by the release of Rivive Adserver which is makeing a lot more effort than I was and has a much more improved chance of success.

Approach

The approach to development of this software has largely been to add more and more. This has been ongoing bloat from close to the start.

This is now over.

OpenX is going on a diet. By which I mean that there is not a Moores Law for software and it does not need to double in size every two years.

OpenX and the future

• To remove everything that can be removed
• To reduce the sie of that which must stay
• to decrease complexity
• to increase scalability
• to increase efficiency
• to document what is left

Some very stupid bugs

There are some truly stupid bugs and short comings that have become so ingrained into the code they are presented by some as "features".

This too must change.

Has this OpenX code ever been refactored?

OpenX: Copyright Information is false in places

OpenX Technologies Inc. have claimed copyright of all code regardless of if they have added so much as a comment to it. I propose that we assume that it is therefore all incorrect and replace the statement with a generic copyright of authors statement.

OpenX: Upgrades can break install

This was my experience and without any tools to debug what went wrong...

An error catcher, logger, reporter

I propose an error catcher of some kind that can generate a report that can be pasted to the issues section here so users can report all breakages. This means setting error reporting to on and perhaps display errors but if Code Igniter and others can do it so can we.

OpenX: web root must be "www" or URLs look stupid

If and only if the web root folder is called "www" can files that should be below the web root be placed there. This is really stupid and a mark of shame that OpenX never fixed this.
