chrome-lucid's Introduction

Lucid

Lucid is a Chrome Extension that replaces your New Tab page with a notepad. It also tells you what day it is. It uses your location to determine whether it should have a dark background or a light one, based on daylight hours.

chrome-lucid's Issues

Content lost after each extension update

Saved content is lost after updating the extension.
It is not confirmed but 95% sure.
I have lost my content a few times, and today I clicked on "Update extensions now" to update this extension from 1.0.0 to 1.0.1 and my content was gone again.

This is super annoying as extension updates automatically and suddenly I lose everything I had noted.

I know it is possibly a restriction on where do the extensions save their data but there should be some way of keeping the data on update (like keeping options in other extensions from one version to another)

Add a progress indicator

When typing, it is very difficult to see if contents are saved or not yet. My suggestion is to add a progress indicator to it so that it marks it as "updating...".

I have done some work in attached PR.

Porting to Firefox WebExtension

Hi Dan,

Mostly minor tweaks are needed in manifest.json and in override.js to work with Firefox.

I don't know how to note the changes in an issue (learning!), but I've uploaded the complete, semi-functional project to a repository at https://github.com/bost-ty/firefox-lucid.

Hope this is helpful. The major issues I'm having still are noted in the Readme. I did update override.css to suit some preferences and some rough media queries (rough improvements for how I use the extension).

Primarily, something in Firefox causes an issue (maybe anti-fingerprinting or other privacy flags I have in place...) with local timezone and prefers-color-scheme. A small options menu might be a workaround to set those variables.

Hope the code is interesting!

Periodically stops saving/updating

Despite being connected to internet, the lucid tab periodically stops saving and the changes to the notepad are lost when the tab is closed.

I've seen this issue twice in the past two weeks and haven't been able to locate the source of the problem. The only way I have found to solve the problem is by reinstalling.
