Update: installed the new MyData script on the wife's machine (running High Sierra 10.13.4 -the latest, i believe). Ran into a permission problem: this version of OS comes with perm's screwed down real tight, but i ran the magic terminal command (sudo spctl --master-disable) to get around this control, enabling machine to run apps from anywhere... Which supposedly it does now, but then when i run ./MyData, i get back "permission denied."

Did you do the chmod +x command
no -i did not. will try now.
makes no diff, it seems. after setting permissions to run any app, then running two commands in terminal -first chmod +x, then ./MyData - i still get "permission denied"
yet i can do anything on the machine. got root.

huh -that's what i typed (only in two separate commands, not one. will try again as one, later (can only steal the wife's machine when she is sleeping 🙂

no, Andy: it would not run. same issue with permissions. I realize that's got nothing to do with your script... But i don't know how to get around it.
i've got root access, so i don't know what else i can do.

I'll have a look at creating an installer that does a full installation
would it help to put a sudo command in front? i don't know unix, obviously, but that seems like the magic open sesame for all manner of things, right?
sounds great. another thing: could it be possible to have a user-configurable command for how much nistory to download?
because: some of the files i pull from these sensors are missing a week, or two... or even coming blank, because the script is set to a one-month window of download history, even though the sensor's data logger holds 3 months history.
in those cases of gaps, i need to go back on my next data collection round and pull deeper history than just one month.

HI Walt, yes I can have an parameter to change the range of downloads. I want to get it working for you first.
yes try the sudo command. That just means run as root

yay! just took the wife's machine, ran the two commands separately as superuser... presto, it's downloading now!

Hurrah ! Let me know if it has the info you want. I'll work on a new version that lets you choice the date range
will do, Andy. Yeah, i still have to do some data munging in my text editor, to grep out just the info i want and nothing but from these headers...
... so if we want to get this right once and for all, i can just give you the format i want, if you like.
