yeah I suppose. It's just we shouldn't jump to conclusions thanks to a reddit post. We need to wait for the rulebook to be released I suppose and base our opinion off of that. Whether the configurations fall under macros or scripts is something I don't think anyone but valve can decide. There's too many arguments to be made both sides.

GG wp retarded valve

Aevyz avatar Aevyz commented on July 24, 2024

problem simply is we don't have a rulebook so we have no idea what it includes. I'd personally bet that the rulebook only applies to valve tournaments. Also does not say anything about toggles. I guess we will have to wait and see what this means for pubs, if the rules shall be enforced in mm (highly doubt it though).

Also it's not like valve's current settings allow for quickcast and selfcast to be used in unison.

FlorianWendelborn avatar FlorianWendelborn commented on July 24, 2024

@AetherV it's still relevant, even if it's only forbidden in tournaments. If it's forbidden, that would mean that every player who believes they may play in a tournament won't/shouldn't use Manta or TheCore anymore. Also things that are forbidden in tournaments are frowned upon by the community as cheats.

And yes, a big part of this issue would be solved if we get a proper source.

added source form cyborgmatt claiming that armlet insta-toggle is forbidden now

from dota2-thecore-config-engine.

Aevyz avatar Aevyz commented on July 24, 2024

What does insta armlet toggle actually do? Is this the thing that is being referenced?. If that is the case, then we might have issues regarding the toggles. Modifiers (the alt and space buttons) should be okay since we are using two separate key to fulfill actions.

The only thing I fear is that this project becomes a massive grey zone as a result of this. Would not surprise me, since it does technically give an advantage, but it is an advantage that should not be there, as it would be nice if Valve would support key modifiers better.

Edit: Oh and good luck trying to get a statement from Volvo

FlorianWendelborn avatar FlorianWendelborn commented on July 24, 2024

@AetherV it's about only this: bind somekey "use_item_armlet;use_item_armlet". That's it. Apparently everything similar to this is forbidden now.

from dota2-thecore-config-engine.

Aevyz avatar Aevyz commented on July 24, 2024

That is going to complicate things a bit. The problem is what we have is far too vague, it could mean

  • Banning multiple item/skill macros and not include the exec command, or...
  • Banning all forms of 2+ action binds

Knowing Valve we ain't gonna get an answer on which specific variant is banned. If it is the former, then we can kiss this project goodbye. If it is the latter, we could simply work around it by binding more keys (kinda defeats the purpose, but work with what you can).

FlorianWendelborn avatar FlorianWendelborn commented on July 24, 2024

About 80% of Manta is suddenly considered cheating. I really hope they will revert this, since they don't even offer any alternative to using autoexec. The options are so much inferior, not for cheating potential, but for fucking keyboard modifiers/shortcuts/combinations. What the actual fuck.

Aevyz avatar Aevyz commented on July 24, 2024

Config as is, is officially dead. I got some concepts I want to try, that should still be within the Valve approved framework, however, I can't guarantee that it would be on the same level as what was had before. Stuff like switching between quick cast and normal cast will probably require some more buttons to be pressed.

from dota2-thecore-config-engine.

FlorianWendelborn avatar FlorianWendelborn commented on July 24, 2024

@AetherV I would recommend you to not use any more time for this. If they think this change was good, then it's only a matter of time before they remove autoexec completely, since nobody will ever use it again.

@dodekeract That's an exaggeration, though.

Aevyz avatar Aevyz commented on July 24, 2024

yeah it's a slippery slope. Really sucks. I'll give it a go, even if it might be for me alone. I'm way too reliant on quick and self cast

from dota2-thecore-config-engine.

Aevyz avatar Aevyz commented on July 24, 2024

Ehm guys, what exactly did this patch fix, I just wrote a proof of concept invoker script in like 2 minutes, that works in a lobby game (sv_cheats 0). Like is this meant to stop scripters?

Edit in hindsight:
What I mean with this is not that I plan to use this script, it is just, that this patch did not do jack shit. Like all I need to do is dig up the command for quickcast invoker spell 4 and than I would have a auto sunstrike script. Like WTF Valve.

Also @dodekeract and @loopuleasa, we can use the same proof of concept to rewrite the config.
