dockbarx's Issues

Window previews do no longer seem to work

Hi @M7S ,

running Xubuntu 16.04 with KWin and dockbarx + xfce4-dockbarx-plugin here.

Unfortunately the window previews on do no longer seem to work in dockbarx.

KWin is definitely generating window thumbnail previews, since they do show up in the KWin task switcher for example.

But in dockbarx, the preview is simply emtpy. "Show previews" is enabled in dockbarx of course.

I've even gone ahead and have installed the kubuntu-desktop metapackage, just to make sure that no KWin dependency is missing, but it still does not work.

Do you have any advice?

Regards

Does dockx support dual monitors?

I can only to get dockx to run on one screen. Even when I set a different primary monitor, dockbarx stubbornly stays on the original. Restarting dockx doesn't help.

Window Previews do not work

The instructions to enable window previews are either obsolete or inadequate for Linux Mint 17 MATE/Ubuntu 14.04. I actually haven't had this working since Ubuntu 10.04, but a note in the README.md file leads me to believe it should be possible.

"NOTE! To use previews with Compiz you need to activate KDE Compability in compiz settings manager and under KDE Compability check "Support Plasma Thumbnails". You can not* use previews with other window manager than Compiz and Kwin."

The following did not enable window previews:

  • checked KDE Compatability in compiz settings
  • verified "Support Plasma Thumnails" was checked
  • checked CompizConfig Settings Manager > Extras > Thumbnail Window Previews
  • checked DockBarX Preferences > Window List > Previews > Show previews
  • checked DockBarX Preferences > Window List > Previews > Show previews for minimized windows

How can I get thumbnail window previews to work?

Won't work on Wayland

It seems that DockbarX makes a few calls to X11 that won't work on Wayland.

I wonder if these calls are really necessary? Or perhaps they are not supported in XWayland?

transparent preview

nice dock !
if I enable previews, they are transparent, I can see only the title and the border

Dockbarx doesn't work on 16.04

Dockbarx xfce panel plugin doesn’t work on my Ubuntu Studio 16.04. I was using Xuzhen fork installed manually on 15.10. Everything was working perfectly. After the update to 16.04 xfce panel plugin has stopped working, but I was able to enter dockbarx preferences. I added Xuzhen ppa and installed dockbarx from this ppa. It didn't help. Finally, I removed Xuzhen ppa, uninstalled fork and added official ppa. Today I’ve installed the newest version from official ppa and it still doesn’t work. The only change is that now dockbarx preferences doesn’t work as well. I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Switching to app shouldn't open minimized windows

If I have some windows minimized for a certain app and I switch to it by clicking its icon in the dock, all minimized windows get un-minimized and open with the other ones.

Minimized windows should stay minimized/be ignored when one switches apps.

Problems with "Ignore windows on other workspaces"

Hey, I am recently checking out dockbarx and really like it so far. I typically hide windows of other workspaces in my taskbar and was happy to see such an option in dockbarx.

Unfortunately I encountered some errors using this option. Selecting applications from a different workspace is still possible using the <Super>-<Tab> keyboard combination and behaves strangely. Sometimes the application is moved to the current workspace, sometimes a new instance is launched. Using <Super>-<Number> has similar issues for me.

The attached screenshot shows the selecting of hidden windows using <Super>-<Tab>.

I am using the version provided in the ppa for Wily:

> dockx --version
DockbarX 0.92

Display labels instead of icons

It would be cool if DockBarX would support displaying opened application labels instead of icons (as option in configuration, of course), ex.:

Redesign of the preferences dialog

Redesign of the preferences dialog

The preferences dialog of DockbarX has been around for a while and gone through quite a few changes. While DockbarX has gotten more and more features the preferences dialog has become more and more crowded with options, to the point where the dialog can feel quite intimidating to new users. It is perhaps time to rewrite it from scratch to make it easier to understand. Now I need your help to get it done.

Mock ups

Send mock ups of how you would like the preference dialog to be rearranged to be easier to use and understand. Let your creativity flow freely as long as you remember that the key focus is on making something that is easier to use.

Language

English isn't my native language and I have a bit of a fondness for playing with words which doesn't always help when you need to write short informative sentences. Help me improve the wording in the texts to make the language more clear. This will help not only the end user, but also the translators who will have an easier job of translating when they don't have to start by guessing what the original text really means.

Opinions

Even if you can't make mock ups or don't speak English well enough to improve the language you can share your opinions of what things in the dialog you find most confusing and what you think should be changed.

Below are screenshots of how DockbarX preferences dialog looks like right now in untranslated English. Some options (regrettably far from all of them) have tooltips. Sadly they don't show up on screenshots.

The AWN tab screenshot is missing since it only shows up if AWN is running and right now I'm not on a computer with AWN installed. I'll add it to the issue later.

Can't pin Wine applications in XFCE4 panel item

Specifically, foobar2000. There is no option to pin it and dropping it onto the panel in XFCE4 results in an endless loading cursor state on hover. Otherwise works fine.

0.91.4, Xubuntu 14.04.

Edit: Scratch that, an icon has now appeared (loading cursor state remains). Opening it just results in a small "Error: File not found." dialog.

Edit 2: Eventually caused the panel to crash and have to reload.

Mate Applet

I'd like to assist in getting dockbarx working in mate again. Currently I use dockx and a bastardized toolbar setup so that they are kind of integrated. However I would really love for applet panel to work again and clean everything up. If someone understands where the issue is and point me in a good direction to start I'd love to take a crack at fixing it. From what I gather it has something to do with mate dropping the python applet api so the next question would be would it be easier to reimplement the python api in mate or modify dockbarx to work with whatever system mate is using now.

Thanks

Wine apps displaying wrong icons

Hi,

I have some wine applications that don't display the proper icon, instead of the icon configured in the launcher I get the default wine icon.

For example, vsphere client 5 starts up with the proper icon but once you log in it reverts to the default wine icon. I have tested this with the regular XFCE taskbar and this doesnt happen.

Faulty automatic vertical/horizontal orientation

The xfce applet often loads as a horizontal bar in a vertical Deskbar mode xfce panel. This leads to small icons that don't fit in the panel. This does happen about one out of ten times on at least three different machines (with very different hardware).
This regards dockbarx v0.91.4

I am pretty sure this behavior is related to the exact loading times of the panel.

I solve this by entering dockbarx's preferences and simply click "apply". This reloads dockbarx correctly in vertical orientation.

Proposed Solution:

One way to solve this could be either adding a selection box, defaulting to dockbarx's current automatic behavior, allowing the user to explicitly choose vertical orientation.

Window previews without Compiz / without KWin?

Hello,

coming from those:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/dockbar/+bug/1329241
https://bugs.launchpad.net/dockbar/+bug/1330191

I'd like to continue here:

As already mentioned there, I asked on the Xfce mailing list and that is one of the answers I got:

https://mail.xfce.org/pipermail/xfce/2014-June/033550.html

Is there any chance you could also do window previes in DockbarX through Clutter like Stephan Haller seems to do be doing it in xfdashboard?

Regards

Click the dockbarx windowlist if xfce-panel autohide

Hi,
Now If i have a two or more window on docbarx windowslit and auto hide panel i can't for example clicking on interest window, because panel is hidden and click do nothing.
Is possible to change dockbar to "kept" panel not hidden while I don't click some option? Whiskermenu works in this way. I hope you know what I mean.

Dock Applets don't work

Dock Applets don't work at all. Tested in Ubuntu 16.04 and 14.04 with both the latest DockBarX 0.92 and 0.91.4.

All the applets I enable are reset when I close and reopen the DOckBarX preferences. There's no terminal output to indicate anything related to this.

I've installed dockbarx form the ppa (With --no-install-recommends) and dockmanager & dockmanager-daemon manually.

The previous versions worked well and I had just one issue (#5) that should be fixed now.

DockbarX doesn't show

Ubuntu 14.04 x64 Crouton (ChromeBook) XFCE4

Fails on importing PIP, error message lost... But it fails

Workaround:
pip install image

Random occurence Render problem in xfce4 after wake up from sleep

In random occurence after wake from suspend, dockx doesn't render it self properly. it doesn't render the dock background and icon. but an icon will show up if the cursor hover above the coresponding icon.

dockx is standalone
ubuntu 16.04 using official ppa
xfce4.12 xubuntu
using 2 monitor and 2 dockx

Select window on hover

I would like windows to be selected on hover rather than on click, making it easier to find the window I want.

This would serve a similar purpose to opacify I think, but it would work without compiz and be more what I want anyway.

Can't change battery applet display options

I setup the current version from git, tried the battery applet and changed it's display options. Now i can't change it again (left and right click don't open the menu).

How i can i reset the battery plugin? Couldn't find it in dconf-editor.

New Release ?

I was wondering if there will be new releases in the future
I see the activity on this fantastic doc has been stopped for 11 months
I hope that this project still alive

Minimize Animation Glitch (Issue)

In XFCE if you have (for example) Compiz Reloaded running to enable animations and you open an application that isn't already on the panel-dock, then minimize an application that was already open before you opened the new app, the minimize animations happens to the location of the app before the extra one was opened.

A clearer example of this is if I have Firefox open and then open up a new application that isn't pinned and then I go back to minimize Firefox, it doesn't minimize directly into the icon, it minimises to where the icon used to be.

If this could be fixed I would very much appreciate that!

Include window list in menu

It would be quicker if open windows appeared right at the top of the menu instead of in the tooltip. Right-clicking is quicker than waiting for the tooltip to appear.

Could perhaps be in the settings?

HiDPI support

I'm using DBX on a 3000x2000 monitor at 2x scaling.

It would be awesome if DBX supported high DPI. I think more and more laptops and computers will come out with it.

Problems I'm having are really small text in tooltips, settings, etc.

Not sure if this can be fixed by me somehow (CSS or I don't know how those get styled).

Update repo for ubuntu 16.04

Hi there,
Ubuntu 16.04 packages are not in the repository, hoping you will soon be kind enough to update the packages.
Thanking you in advance 👍

Actions not shown

XFCE 4.12, Arch x64, DockbarX 0.92
Hi there,

I got the problem that the Actions defined in the *.desktop files are not showing up.There should be 3 actions as defined, but shown are none of them.

screenshot_2017-04-23_14-16-49

I also enabled every setting I thought they are related:
image

So the question: Is this a bug? Is this implemented? If not, is it planned? Thats quite a useful feature I use a lot and something every dock had I used yet.

See Desktop Entry Specification: Additional applications actions: https://standards.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/latest/ar01s10.html

Please add a menu applet to standalone DockX

Hello,

I think the standalone DockX is a nice thing.

But one thing that prevents me from using it and makes me use the xfce4-dockbarx-plugin instead, is that DockX is lacking a menu applet.

While searching for a solution, I came across the following thread:

https://answers.launchpad.net/dockbar/+question/119960

However, your answer is already about four years old.

So, I'd like to ask again:

Is there any chance you could add a menu applet to DockX?

Or is it already possible?

And if yes: How?

Regards

Icons in Dockbarx disappear after changing workspace

I've got a lot of strange behavior with the last dockbarx versions.

I'm using Xubuntu 14.04, with dockbarx 0.91.4 as a xfce-plugin, and the problem is when I change workspace and come back to the previous one where I have opened programs, the dockbarx icons disappear (In the dock and the plugin), so I should update dockbarx to get them back.

N.B: Sorry for my poor English.

DockbarX only runs under root

Pretty much what the title says. I can run "sudo dockx" and it runs like a charm, but when I run "dockx", this error is returned.

I'm running Linux Mint 17.2 XFCE currently and looking to use it with the XFCE plugin, if that's worth anything. I was also getting an error about Zeitgeist earlier, but that went away once I just installed it from the ppa.

Thanks!

gnomepanel-applet-dockbarx broken since Ubuntu 13.04/Linux Mint 15

Well i need the requiered packages to make it work properly.
But under Slackware64 14.2 i don't know what are the packages need it.

Because on the "README.md" just says the packages for Debian (and derivates)

Offset in Window Previews

I'm running Arch Linux with Xfce as my desktop manager and Compiz as my window manager. When I'm using the Xfce dockbarx applet or Dockx, the window previews for un-maximized windows is shifted:
screenshot_2017-11-22_19-50-49

This does not occur with maximized windows:
screenshot_2017-11-22_19-53-00

This happens with both the Xfce dockbarx plugin and Docx.

On latest DockX, minimizing

With the latest updates for dockbarX/dockbarX xfce plugin ( I see it with both), I see the following behaviors:

Minimizing a window of a pinned app makes all mouse actions unresponsive. I have seen this with terminal emulator, file manager, skype, chrome
Right clicking on the applet and choosing Refresh makes the icon group of any app with a minimized window disappear. They only reappear if I unminimize all windows of the app and refresh the plugin again.

Snippet of crash (I have the complete crash if needed) follows:
PythonArgs: ['/usr/share/xfce4/panel/plugins/xfce4-dockbarx-plug', '-s', '41943065', '-c', '/home/mikec/.config/xfce4/panel/dockbarx-15.rc']

I'm using dockbarx with XFCE, and it'd be nice to be able to hide certain applications from dockbarx. As far as I know, there's not currently a way to do this. Sorry if this feature already exists, or if it's outside the projects scope.

Dockbarx 0.91.4
GNOME 2.28

In the first start, DockbarX is working fine. I have been added it in gnome-panel. When I change settings and apply it, DockbarX is dissapperaing. After relogin, it is not appears. I need to clear ~/.gconf/apps/dockbarx to make it working again.
