Ravemau5

Code

• Initially built in Game Maker Studio, it has now been ported to GMS2. There were some losses along the way, including paralax background scrolling.

The Game

Player Controls

• arrow keys + space
• soft joystick for mobile (people have found this less than intuitive, it may need revisiting)

Baddies/Dangers

• beetles - jump on top to kill, otherwise they hurt the player. They aren't visible enough in the dark
• slime blobs - can't be killed currently. I'd like to add a range weapon to deal with them
• stationary shooter - needs to be redesigned
• once baddies are killed, they don't respawn. That could be addressed once slime blobs are killable
• should shooters be destructable?

Interactive Enviromental Elements

• ice
• moving platforms
• fire/toxic lava stuff

Audio

• I added a song for each world, and some effects, but honestly, they're terrible, so I've turned them off for now.

Extras

• there is a save file, but it's not very useful right now, since worlds/characters are all unlocked by default, and collectable glow rings aren't good for anything. Might be useful later (famous last words)

Player doesn't turn to walk on mobile

probably the turning is based on keydown rather than velocity of player as it should be

Encrypted Save Files

The level exit needs a new, sparkly graphic

Make Hud Responsive

-multiple font sizes, used based on device width
-Overlay fits device width

Android build is glitchy

The parlour background shows the title image rather than the actual background(s)

Cheese is ugly

Parlour Music was never updated

Level Complete popup window

This would allow the level complete sfx to play, and show the player how many glowrings/points/kills they got for that level. Later can be enhanced to include a star rating

Persist Relevant Information so that the game remembers player in the future

-include a reset stats button

Animated Deco

animated steam in sewer, lights/lazers in disco, snow in ice, sun beams with dust motes for parlour

Timer for each level

-There is a limited amount of time to finish
-This is optional, and good for achievements

Sewer BG is ugly

-The tunnel is ugly
-Brick should be more sewery (green slime dripping, etc)
-Hang pipes from ceiling instead of tunnel, maybe

Purchase Players with glow rings

Currently all the player/avatar choices are free. They should be given variable values and be locked before purchase

-persist which players are unlocked

Glow Ring should rotate, and also it is ugly

Create a song

-idealy, a variation for each world, but start with one song

Name the Avatars

squealix, shutter shane, kandi karl, fly frieda. Show the name above/below the character

SFX - Jump, Get Hurt, Button Click

Comic page for each world

-should pop up the first time you enter a world, and have a button for re-opening later

Replace Pig Spring with something else

Daft Punk Helmet Player Option

Jumpthrough platform collision is glitchy

The mouse can stand inside the platform - there should be no collision under the top 10 pixels, and that should only be ground collision.
