best-picture's Issues

Add error messaging when a user tries to create a second contest.

Users can't currently create a second contest. I can't remember what happens when they try but it's not at all clear to the user what's happening. Need better messaging/route to appropriate page if they try.

Alternatively, we could allow users to create a second contest, but that introduces a few other features that'll take some time, I don't think it's necessary for v1.

Allow users to vote on contests for only males or females?

Currently users are shown a random contest to vote on. We might want to go full on hot-or-not and allow them to only view contests of the sex they're interested in.

I'm thinking after signing up to the app we'd give them options to:

  • Vote on female contests
  • Vote on male contests
  • Vote on both

They'd check one of those boxes and we'd serve contests accordingly. Don't think it would be too hard, would need to add a gender field to contests table and gender preference field to users table.

Not all FB photos are accessible

When creating a contest, only a fraction of a user's available Facebook photos are presented for inclusion in the contest. What's up with this? Is it an issue with how we're accessing the FB API? Or maybe in issue with photo sharing permissions?

When selecting photos for a contest, selected photos should be highlighted

Currently when a user selects a photo at contest/id/photos, the photo jumps to the end of the page after its selected. This works, but it's jerky and unintuitive. Better UX would be the photo being highlighted. If clicked a second time it is unhighlighted. After 5 photos are selected a "Create Contest" button appears. When this is clicked, the contest id of each photo that is highlighted gets updated to the current contest.
