cv's Introduction

Pamela C. Mezue

Software Developer

ProjectsSkillsEducationExperienceInterests

I am a self-driven, motivated software engineer. Following an MEng in Engineering Science from Oxford University, I worked in Business Development at Lamudi (Rocket Internet) in Nigeria before working as a Management Consultant.

I love building things. As a consultant, I realised that I naturally gravitated towards solving technical problems. I started programming in my spare time towards helping me improve the tools I built for consulting projects. I realised I loved solving logical problems using software: in particular learning new tools and how to apply them to solve a small problem, exploring new concepts through small projects, building and breaking things... Learning software development has been the perfect mix of technology and creativity, allowing me to be challenged on a regular basis and I'm excited to continue to learn.

I’m looking for a motivated engineering team where I can continue to learn in a fast-paced environment, engaging in best practices such as Agile, Scrum, Test Driven Development and Pair Programming.

Projects

Below are some selected projects I have recently worked on:

Project Time Frame Description Technologies Testing
SportsMatch (React) and SportsMatch API 2 weeks A web app to help sports players find a sports partner with similar ability to play against in their local area. We built an API in Python and used React on the frontend. Final group project following agile methodologies while using a new stack. Python, SQLAlchemy, Flask, React Pytest, Cypress
LizardBook 2 weeks A social networking site for lizards. Second team project, where we learnt Rails. Ruby, Rails, Bcrypt, JQuery Rspec, Capybara
MakersBnB 5 days First team project building I worked as part of a team to make a clone or AirBnB by turning technical specifications into a web app. Ruby, Sinatra Rspec, Capybara
Bowling Scorecard 4 days A scorecard to help keen bowlers keep track of their score in a game. Javascript, JQuery Jasmine

Skills

Key Technical Skills

  • Ruby, JavaScript, Python, jQuery, HTML, CSS
  • Rails, Sinatra, Flask, Bootstrap, React
  • Jasmine, RSpec, Capybara
  • Postgresql
  • Travis CI, Heroku, Git
  • Agile Methodologies, TDD, Debugging, OOP

Communication

As a Consultant, I managed multiple stakeholder relationships in my projects. These relationships were across a range of business functions (e.g. HR, IT, Estates) and required consistent and clear communication. I have led client interviews and workshops, aiming to get the most from sometimes challenging situations e.g. team restructures.

Building Tools

As a Consultant, I was drawn to developing data tools for clients. I developed a data and resource model to capture previously unquantifiable user demand across large operational areas for clients. This tool provided data to drive the recommendations we made for the client and was adapted for subsequent large projects by the team.

Goal Driven & Curious

I am organised and goal-driven and have frequently taken the role of Programme Manager for transformation projects. For example, I Programme Managed the integration of a newly acquired business in Asia into a FTSE 100 Insurer based in London. This included designing the system and implementation. This project was successful in achieving a 20% reduction in headcount. I have also been learning Python and Machine Learning in my spare time led by my interests in AI, building a programme for flower recognition.
