For future self, this was fixed in - 16b9838

For miscellaneous languages, like the https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=humao.rest-client, is that something that is feasible? If so, I will create a new issue for it.. What do you think?

I think it's not very common in markdown usage, making it as an community plugin will be more make sense. For official plugins, I think we should focus on common markdown features.
