cv's Issues

How to produce a pdf document?

Hi Mitchell,
Thanks for this terrifying package. I just have one issue in my mind that I could not find the answer on web about this. So, basically I want a pdf output instead a html after I prepare my Rmd file. In this regard, I prefer to use vitae::markdowncv template. After a bit search on the web, I found some information on how to change it to pdf like adding this
output:
vitae::markdowncv:
theme: kjhealy
latex_engine: pdflatex

but it just does not work. So is there anything that you can suggest to change something on the YAML so that I can have a pdf output?

Unable to write Ampersand symbol (&)

I have the following code:

tribble(
  ~ degree, ~ uni, ~ loc, ~ dates, ~ details,
  "MEng Chemical Engineering", "My uni", "London, United Kingdom", "Sept. 2019 - Present",
  list("Relevant modules: Data Mining & Analysis , Mathematical Modelling & Analysis I and II, and Stochastic Uncertainty & Analysis ."
    ),
  "A Levels and GCSEs", "My secondary", "London, United Kingdom", "Sept. 2012 - Jun. 2019",
  list("A levels: Biology (A), Chemistry (A), and Mathematics (A)",
       "GCSEs: 8 A*-B subjects, English Language (8), English Literature (9), Mathematics (9)")
)%>%
  detailed_entries(degree, dates, uni, loc, details)

When I knit my file I get the following error:

! Missing } inserted.
<inserted text>
                }
l.129 \end{cvitems}}

Error: LaTeX failed to compile CV_04_10_22.tex. See https://yihui.org/tinytex/r/#debugging for debugging tips. See CV_04_10_22.log for more info.
Execution halted

When I remove the & symbols the file knits. I have no issue with removing these symbols from the education section of my CV, but one of the companies I have worked for has an ampersand in their name. Is there any way I could include the ampersand symbol in my CV?

Can you add \newlines ?

I wish I had some line spaces between award, scholarships, and competitions, however, \newlines doesn't seem to work here. Can you add that function into this package, or is there an alternative way?

! LaTeX Error: There's no line here to end.

WIth Ubuntu 18.04 , After installing all the required packages I see the below error with this .rmd file . I am completely blocked here, really appreciate help here, could not find anything specific in google for rmd + aswesome cv format errors on r-markdown

output file: Resume.knit.md

This is XeTeX, Version 3.14159265-2.6-0.99998 (TeX Live 2017/Debian) (preloaded format=xelatex)

Error code: Latex

Hi Mitchell, thanks so much for sharing the 'vitae' package, its much appreciated and such a great idea. I've been playing around with it but unfortunately can't get the RMarkdown to 'knit' correctly despite my best efforts at de-bugging, updating my version of R etc. All the code 'runs' from the template but it won't knit. The error message is:-

Error: LaTeX failed to compile ModernCV-format.tex. See https://yihui.org/tinytex/r/#debugging for debugging tips.
In addition: Warning messages:
1: In RefManageR::as.BibEntry(.) :
rownames of data.frame not meaningful for creating keys
2: In system2(..., stdout = if (use_file_stdout()) f1 else FALSE, stderr = f2) :
'"pdflatex"' not found
Execution halted

Any help much appreciated, as I'm still an 'R' beginner.

Issue with unicode-math-table

I have tried rendering your example. Can't get it to go. I get the following error

! Undefined control sequence.
l.931   \file_get:nnN
                      {unicode-math-table.tex} {} \l__um_mathtable_tl

I think this may be related to loading unicode-math which can be seen here

Are you aware of anyone else having this issue?

LaTeX Error: Environment cvparagraph undefined.

I copied over CV.Rmd file over to a new, empty Rmarkdown file in RStudio. I also saved the publications.bib file into the same folder, but when I try to knit to PDF it gives me the error in the title of this post. How do I define cvparagraph, and are there other similar setups that will likely cause errors? I am on a Windows machine using R4.3.2 and RStudio 2023.09.1. Thank you for your help.
