It's not a complete replacement at all, it's a virtual terminal that happens to have network magic inside the box...
This is illuminating:
http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg68620.html
I think that if Mosh's capabilities were clearer here it might save a lot of confusion. This might apply to man pages and README as well.
It is frequently asked, after all. Perhaps this increases our chances somewhat of having someone volunteer patches for a native Windows client.
mosh.org and mosh.mit.edu are both returning a 403 Forbidden error (both http and https).
I think is something that only @keithw can investigate.
There is the following text at the top of https://mosh.org:
You don't need to be the superuser to install or run Mosh
However it is unclear how to install mosh on server if you don't have root rights.
Could you, please, add instructions about installing mosh without root access. I think for now it can be just for one popular distribution, for exampe ubuntu.
Something like this gist: https://gist.github.com/xiaom/8264691 (code from gist doesn't work now, but there are some useful notes in comments, I think it would be very cool if you will accumulate these notes and publish remade gist on your site).
Thanks for excellent tool!
The "Getting Mosh" section on https://mosh.org/#getting says the Homebrew version can be installed on OS X 10.5 or later. Unfortunately, my old Mac running OS X 10.7.5 can no longer run Homebrew at all (it used to be able to, but Homebrew stopped being able to update itself and now the old client can't talk to their servers) so I don't think it's fair to say it's still possible to install on 10.5 via Homebrew. Homebrew's own site now says 10.13 is required.
I can however confirm that MacPorts is still able to install Mosh on 10.7.5 in August 2020, so I have no reason to think the requirements have changed there. So perhaps MacPorts is now a better option than Homebrew if you need to put Mosh (or other tools) on an older Mac.
(The Chrome version of Mosh also fails to install on Chromium 49, which is the last version of Chromium that will run on OS X 10.7.5. But I could install Mosh on a Debian 8 image that the old Mac has installed in Vagrant/VirtualBox, and use it by doing for example vagrant ssh -c 'mosh srcf'
so that might be one alternative to MacPorts if necessary.)
It's a pity that Macs are premium pieces of hardware that can last 10 years but tend to get software support for only half that time.

$ host mosh.mit.edu
mosh.mit.edu is an alias for scripts-vhosts.mit.edu.
scripts-vhosts.mit.edu has address 18.181.0.46
Mosh now works on IPv6 only internet access however the website does not.
I've created an alternate Portfile for macports that installs the most recent version of Mosh. I've included instructions on the following site which I believe are pretty easy to follow... this may help mitigate a lot of repeat bug reports in the mosh repo for things that have been fixed in the last year or so: https://github.com/randywallace/mosh-portfile
I'm trying out mosh on my Chromebook. If I have the shelf set to auto hide, and make the mosh window fullscreen, then I can never get the shelf back - even if I switch to another app - until I stop mosh being fullscreen again.
hey, you have a screenshot on your main page, this one:
i know, it's almost a decade old, but i really want to know: what are these colors? what is this color scheme? i tried searching for it using color codes from the screenshot, but with no luck :(
it came with @keithw initial (!) commit back in 2012, so i guess it'll be a good idea to ask him about it: do you know/remember something about this environment?
sorry for disturbing you with this issue, which isn't actually an issue, but i hope i'm not the one who likes these colors ;) feel free to close this issue if you want.
https://mosh.org/ claims to install mosh from cygwin with mobile-shell
, but the package is actually named mosh
now https://cygwin.com/packages/summary/mosh.html.
mosh.org currently displays:

You don't have permission to access / on this server.
https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/mosh.org says mosh.org is down.
Even though the Mosh website contains a “Recent News” section, there appears to be no feed for it.
GitHub is a tremendous resource to keep abreast of releases and alterations to the site itself, but it would be cleaner and simpler for interested parties to be able to subscribe to a single feed from the project’s home page.
Since this seems like such a frequently encountered issue among users, would be awesome if there were some more helpful recommendations on the mosh site.
Even just linking to https://filippo.io/my-remote-shell-session-setup/ rather than the GitHub issue would be a big improvement. (But better yet a similar page maintained by the mosh developers.)
Thanks for your consideration.
For years, the mosh chrome app was the recommended way to use mosh on Windows. But it seems like this app won't work in the future, see: rpwoodbu/mosh-chrome#223
These days, my personal recommendation to everyone who asks is that they should use WSL with Windows Terminal.
