gombot-chrome's Introduction

Gombot Client (Chrome)

These are the browser extensions for Gombot, an new experimental cross-platform password manager from Mozilla.

For more information on packaging and running this extension in Chrome, see this page.

Setup

Make sure to check out submodules (git submodule update --init) before running.

Building the site configuration file requires running build_site_configs.rb. This is only needed when site_configs.yml is updated. This script uses the js-yaml commmand line tool [https://github.com/nodeca/js-yaml], which must be in your PATH.

gombot-chrome's Issues

Version numbering

For the dev channel, in order for autoupdate to work we'll need to update the version number in manifest.json with each push. Something automatically generated like a unix timestamp might make this easier.

Site support issues

  • tumblr.com, esp wrt switching between signup and login and password reset
  • clippercard.com
  • enrollonline.com (multiple password fields)

Extension sometimes hangs on install

Crystal writes:

I'm getting hung up on the install process. The big blue button says "Checking..." and the .crx extension downloads to my computer but no install happens. Is anyone else seeing this?

Further detail, if I drag the .crx to the extensions window to install manually I get this error.

Package is invalid: CRX_MAGIC_NUMBER_INVALID

CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md file missing

As of January 1 2019, Mozilla requires that all GitHub projects include this CODE_OF_CONDUCT.md file in the project root. The file has two parts:

  1. Required Text - All text under the headings Community Participation Guidelines and How to Report, are required, and should not be altered.
  2. Optional Text - The Project Specific Etiquette heading provides a space to speak more specifically about ways people can work effectively and inclusively together. Some examples of those can be found on the Firefox Debugger project, and Common Voice. (The optional part is commented out in the raw template file, and will not be visible until you modify and uncomment that part.)

If you have any questions about this file, or Code of Conduct policies and procedures, please reach out to [email protected].
