mpv.io's Introduction

mpv.io

Overview

This repository is the source code to our website running at http://mpv.io. The website is hosted with GitHub Pages, and the compiled version is available on this repository.

The compiled version is automatically created and committed by Github Actions when changes are pushed to the master of this repository.

Contributing

To contribute you have these possibilities:

  • Fork this website, make your changes and send pull requests.
    • If you find errors but are unable to contribute then please open a issue.
  • Note that the source files for the online manual are entirely in the main "mpv" repo.

Setup a local development environment

The website is created using a static website generator called Middleman. Here's what you need to do to get a copy of the website running on your local machine.

  • Optional: have rbenv or rvm installed. These tools will automatically select the correct version of Ruby based on the .ruby-version file. Alternatively you will need to install Ruby 2.7 (not 3.x) manually.
  • gem install bundler:1.17.3
  • bundle _1.17.3_ install
  • rbenv rehash (only if using rbenv)
  • bundle exec middleman server
  • See the website running at: http://localhost:4567/

mpv.io's Issues

Package missing

MPV with VapourSynth PPA package is still missing for Ubuntu 17.10 (Artful Aardvark). Contacted with package maintainer, no reply so far.:-(

RPM Package Missing

I went to the installation instructions and theres no instructions for RPM package (Fedora,CentOS,RHEL etc)
Please add,thanks

Package missing

For Ubuntu 14.04 I've had 2 ppa's for some time, both will stay fairly current.
Standalone here, it gets updated every couple of weeks, uses libquvi-0.4
https://launchpad.net/~mc3man/+archive/ubuntu/mpv-tests

This ppa (which I use/prefer), gets updated weekly or less, uses libquvi-0.9
Obviously there is much more than just mpv available, though some of which can be helpful to mpv.
https://launchpad.net/~mc3man/+archive/ubuntu/trusty-media
The route builds go is 1st. to a proposed ppa for personal testing, then to the trusty media ppa. If there are no issues/complaints then finally to the standalone ppa

Package missing

I maintain the SlackBuild at SlackBuild.org. Until ffmpeg can be updated there, or I get the 'OK' to build mpv with static ffmpeg, I have an updated version at my github repo. It builds mpv-0.9.2 against ffmpeg-2.6.3. I thought it might be good to have that link as well until I can get the SlackBuild.org package script updated. https://github.com/jvvv/slackbuilds/tree/master/mpv

Supported subtitle formats and file extensions

I'm one of those willing to contribute, but not capable enough handling your mpv.io website building environment, hence my contribution here.

Section: https://mpv.io/manual/master/#subtitles

Gets this additional chapter, or possible integrated into the "Notes" section at the beginning.

Supported subtitle formats and file extensions

  • mpv supports exactly the same subtitle file formats that ffmpeg supports → See ffmpeg documentation → Support matrix Subtitle-Formats"Decoding" column → Compatibility symbol/remark.

  • If you use --sub-auto with option exact or fuzzy or all then mpv looks for matching files which in addition also have one of the supported "autoload" file extensions as defined in external_files.csub_exts -- which as of 2023-08-10 are:

utf, utf8, utf-8, idx, sub, srt, rt, ssa, ass, mks, vtt, sup, scc, smi, lrc, pgs and NULL (that is a file without any extension)

cannot setup a local development environment

I want to make a change, and I want to know if I make a right change.
But I cannot setup a local development environment
cmd_2Ze9ae64fX
Can I just pull the request without a local development.

Latest version working under XP

I search the latest version working under XP. Nothing found.
Is possibly to ad this old version as avalable download for XP users?

RPMs?

Hi

Any reason there aren't any RPMs for installation on Fedora or other Redhat based or RPM using distros?

1080p

Sir, i have issues in playing 1080p mp4 or whatever format. It runs very slow.. and also the player creates new instance ...

The SlackBuilds.org update for mpv.

SlackBuild.org has released a new update, and my updated package for mpv-0.92 is included. I will leave my github repo's version, which bundles ffmpeg, intact for the time being; but the preferred package is again the one that is hosted on SlackBuilds.org. Thank for your continued patience while we were in the process of updating all our SlackBuilds that depended on ffmpeg to link against a more recent version (2.6.3).

Remove outdated macOS builds

The builds by @jnozsc have fallen behind. There hasn't been a new one since September 2020. I propose we remove the link to them from the website.

Package missing

I love mpv and built a distro-agnostic AppImage of version 0.18.0, which bundles all required libraries so that I can run it on my Debian 8 laptop without installing anything. Any interest in providing AppImage as one of the downloadable package formats?

Slackware 'bleeding edge' repo address change

Old address was https://github.com/jvvv/slackbuilds/tree/master/mpv
New address is https://github.com/jvvv/slackbuilds/tree/master/mpv.static_ffmpeg

The old address is meant to be my mirror of the official release package that I update when I submit new package to SlackBuilds.org. I would prefer that the release address still point to http://slackbuilds.org/repository/14.1/multimedia/mpv/

Hope this helps. Thought it might be good to provide a simple way for Slackware users to test current mpv / ffmpeg development and still be able to track it with package management. I may also change the installed name to reflect so that release and bleeding edge can be installed simultaneously. That won't change the repo address, though

Thank you

F-droid package?
I don't use google play store and I would love to be able to install MPV from f-droid repositories. It's my favorite media player on desktop.
