github-starter-course's Introduction

๐Ÿ‘‹ The Basics of GitHub

๐ŸŒŸ Learning Intentions

  • To develop an understanding of using Version Control Systems (vcs) and GitHub.
  • To build your capability of working effectively with the tooling required to complete this course

๐Ÿ’ฅ Success Criteria

At the end of this lesson you should:

  • Have an account with github and have it linked to the github classroom
  • Checked out your first repository
    • Created a new markdown file and noted which of the topics below you have read and what is still confusing for you.
    • Committed your changes and created a pull request by following the trunk-based development workflow

๐Ÿ“‹ Instructions

  1. Learning about git and GitHub
  2. Follow the instructions to create a new markdown file and note things you have understood and those that are still confusing for you
  3. Ensure that you have committed the new file from the previous step and sent a pull request to your teacher.

โž• Extensions

  • Update your profile and add a README, ensuring that you do not include personally identifiable information.
    • Don't use you full name, email address, personal address, phone numbers, photo or anything else that could be tracked to you directly.
    • You can create an avatar that would represent you, just like in the game Ready Player One
    • Let the world know a little bit more about you! What are you interested in learning? What are you working on? What's your favorite hobby?
  • Go to your user dashboard and create a new repository. Experiment with the features within that repository to familiarize yourself with them.
