wifikeyboard's Issues

i love the new remote control features, add more

I was wondering if you could make a pro version of wifi keyboard or another app
that focused on controlling your phone from a browser which you can partially
with your app today. I wish for more controls added without having to root my
phone to be able to use them. Especially if you could somehow find a way to
screen capture the phone through a non-traditional way without root access
would be super cool. But controls like accessing voice search and being able to
swipe and scroll and access notifications from the panel within any app and
access the previous opened apps list and take a picture controlling the
hardware camera button's key code/action fired so we could take video or
pictures remotely from the browser with the app installed on the phone would be
some of the features that I'd consider to be more comprehensive. This could
either be bundled in a pro version of your app, the current free version, or an
entirely new app specifically for controlling your phone. Hope to hear from you
on this suggestion. Thanks. Anthony DiMarco

Korean does not work.

What steps will reproduce the problem?

I have tested on the new version, which is supporting the Korean and Chinese.
But, it's not working for the Korean input on the Chrome and IE7.
When I write the Korean in the input box, written letters are displayed there
as it is.
It may be not sent the key event while typing the keyboard, when gathering the
ADB log. Any trace logs are not displayed when typing the Korean.

I wonder I understand your means exactly.
I can see your written the message, NEW: Korean and Chinese support; port fix
on the google market page. Is it correct post fix? Is it support the Korean?

Your application is very useful and convenience.
Please keep up the good work.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
It supports the Korean language.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Android 2.1 and Chrome browser

Some kind of protection

Using it on Nexus One, froyo 2.2 - i'd very apreciate this app, but I'd like to
point out that portscanning a network for port "7777" would make possible for
virtually anyone to operate your android smartphone.

Would it be possible to add a password request (or at least custom port
number)? Both will be nice.

Thank you very much.

Fast switch of input method

Hello Ivan!

First of all, I'd like to say THANK YOU for creating this app. It's made me
stop longing for the bluetooth HID keyboard support that's so long overdue in
Android.

Now I can IM and SMS from my phone (saving me from opening ICQ/MSN/Skype on the
PC every time I sit down at my desk) without having to type everything on the
phone keyboard. This first version is already surprisingly polished and works
extremely well. No missing letters, little to no lag when typing fast, and most
importantly: No crashes and graceful reconnects, even after killing the process
with a task manager!

And now, the feature requests:

1. A way to piggyback on an existing input method, so that you can use WiFi
Keyboard and a soft keyboard at the same time and don't need to constantly
switch input methods. This works just fine with the hardware keyboard on my
Milestone already (which was a very pleasant surprise), but I'm sure users of
phones without hardware keyboards would really appreciate this.

2. USB support without ADB (haven't actually tried this yet... can't figure it
out). Maybe a PC-side utility like AndroidScreenCast?

Other than that, I'm completely satisfied with this app. Absolutely awesome.
Thanks again for creating it :)

Suggestion: Browser Window Name

It would be great if we can EDIT the Browser Title.
At this time, the Title is always "WiFi Keyboard".

I suggest creating a field to enable users to inform the Title.
(Example: I want the browser window shows "Google" instead of "WiFi Keyabord")

REASON: I don´t want some people to know that I´m using my keyboard to type
on my cell phone. :-o

Thanks a lot !

Bug: Last input being inserted after resuming use of WiFiKeyboard

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Type something with WiFi Keyboard
2. Allow device to sleep, so that the browser window shows "Status:
Disconnected"
3. Wake Android device and try to type something

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
This causes the last 10-20 letters inputted (input buffer maybe?)... little bit
annoying when the last thing you entered is your e-mail address and password,
and that all just pops up on the screen in plain text.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Motorola Milestone running o2 Germany Android 2.1.

Cut, Copy, Paste and Select all

Could you add Cut (Ctrl-X), Copy (Ctrl-C), Paste (Ctrl-V) and Select all
(Ctrl-A) as commands instead of typing the (Ctrl-)keys (like V when hitting
Ctrl-V)? That would make this awesome app even better!

Not working on HTC Desire

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install MoDaCo custom ROM r8 on HTC Desire
2. Attempt to use WiFiKeyboard
3. netstat -a from a terminal emulator; port 7777 is not open

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

Expected to be able to browse to keyboard from computer. Unable to over wifi or
usb/adb. After it would not work in any way, locally or remotely (via an open
port or even the router DMZ/firewall off), I looked into the root cause and
believe it's because TCP port 7777 is not opening on the phone.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

WifiKeyboard:
*Version 1.2.1 from the Market.

Phone:
*HTC Desire (original UK release from O2 with the AMOLED screen)
*MoDaCo Custom ROM r8 (based on Android 2.2) for the HTC Desire:
**Build 2.09.405.8 CL218634 release-keys
**Kernel 2.6.32.15-gf9c0527
**htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
**Baseband 32.44.00.32U_5.09.05.30_2

Computer OSs and browsers/methods tried:

*Windows 7 Professional x64, Windows XP x64 SP2, Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard
**Firefox 3.6.8
**Chromium (various builds)
**Opera 10.61, 10.62
**Internet Explorer 8, build unknown
**adb 1.0.26

*OpenSUSE 11.3 x64 KDE
**Firefox, build unknown
**Chromium, build unknown
**Opera, build unknown
**adb, build unknown

Please provide any additional information below.

Think I've provided as much as I can. Like I say I believe the port isn't
opening on the phone after giving it a netstat -a. The WifiKeyboard process
does not close when I activate it in settings or when I choose it as an input
method. My phone is rooted.

Wake up device on key events.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open Handcent
2. Type a Message
3. Hit Enter

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Return. Sending my message.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Newest, Android Magic

Please provide any additional information below.
I think making the functionality a little more adapted to an actual
keyboard would be really useful. On this specific issue, a single key
press or combination (e.g. Shift+Enter) to send a message instead of (Right
Arrow, then, Enter). The other problem I find that accrues is in relation
to idle time, for example, if I am keeping a conversation using my computer
browser through my phone via wifikeyboard then decide to play a game during
downtime when I go back to type the letters take a long period to shower
up. It would also be nice if the program was capable to "wake up" the
screen once it's gone black.

Although it sounds like I have a lot of negative things to say about
wifikeyboard, the idea is amazing and really fits my style. I just think a
few more options would make this program one of my favorite.

Hi Ivan.

First of all. It is great. and thank you very much. :)

Add link to keyboard settings in the app's menu? (Kindle Fire)

I just ran across your app and think it's a great idea! Unfortunately, I
wasn't able to get it to work on the Kindle Fire because it uses a custom
settings menu that doesn't include several of the screens, including the one
for selecting an alternate keyboard.

I noticed that finding that menu on other devices is a common challenge for
users in general. Perhaps adding a direct link to that specific menu screen in
your app would be a good idea as it would solve both problems.

Context long press

I use WiFi Keyboard 2.2.1

When pressing the return key of the PC for a long time, in some Android
programs a context sensitive menu will open.

The behaviour is not as expected. Two different kinds of malfunctions can be
observced:

1) It seems that the "focus" is not at the foreground menu but stays "behind"
the new foreground menu.
Example:
With the program "Task List - ToDo List" (LorSoft), Version 2.5
(http://anddev.intbuilder.com/tl/faq.aspx) some actions for the different tasks
can be selected by using the context long press. But pressing the cursor
up/down keys at the PC afterwards, still the navigation is with regard to the
tasks, but not within the context menu.

2) Using Google Mail and pressing the return key when being in the list of
mails, the context menu opens for a short moment. Afterwards, immediately the
email is opened. The context menu disappears beforehead.

------------------

My expectation is that pressing the "return" key at the PC would just open the
context menu as it is the case when doing it with the phone (and navigation is
possible). It would be ok if the functionality would be achieved with another
key press (function key F8 or something similar)

I observe this with a HTC dream (G1) and using the Android 1.6 based
CyanogenMod 4.2.15.1 .

Can not completely uninstall the program.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install older Wifi Keyboard (I think from Jan 2011).
2. Update to a new WifiKeyboard ( I have updated since my first install).
3. Uninstall Wifi Keyboard.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Instead of being with no Wifi keyboard at all, I still have the
Wifi Keyboard in "Language and keyboard" list.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
I noticed the problem today (12.3.2011) but the first time I installed
Wifi keyboard, was in ~January.

Please provide any additional information below.

As I see, through the versions the name changed from "Wifi Keyboard"
to "WifiKeyboard". IMHO ,during one of the updates, product was
updated, and registered as "Wifikeyboard" in addition to "Wifi
Keyboard".
Would like to get instructions how to fix that.

Pressing escape goes too far back when in Menu

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Open People app. Click Menu (on phone or F2 on wifikeyboard)
2. Press Escape on wifikeyboard
3. Notice how People closes instead of just closing the menu.
4. Open People app again, press menu, and then press the back key on the phone
itself.
5. Notice how it only closes the menu.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Using the escape button on wifikeyboard should only close the menu, not go back
an extra screen past the menu. If in handcent, and menu is open, pressing
escape will bring you back to the contact list. It always brings you back a
screen instead of just closing the menu.

Select contact issue and new functionality request.

If you are within SMS, you can use your app to type in the name of a contact,
and all their numbers appear in the drop down as normal. However if you use
the down arrow key and enter to select a contact number you get an error.

New feature:
This app would be 10000% better if you could see what you were typing in your
browser and not have to keep referring to the phone to see if you have made a
mistake.

Port forwarding forces new port number

1. Open wifi keyboard, it listens on 7777
2. Open connect bot; create a remote port forward - source port 7777 to

3. Go to another app and enabled WiFi keyboard; port number changes

You can (sort of) fudge it by doing things in the reverse order-
Open wifi keyboard and enable it to get the source port,
Then open connect bot and create the port forward and connect...

Ideally, it would be nice to define a single port which is used every time!
