open3dscanner's Issues

Prevent confusion based on the project name

There were several people that expected that the Open3DScanner performs the full photogrammetry pipeline. From taking photos to generating textured meshes. Everything happening on the smartphone.

Maybe this should be pointed out better.

Provide some example scans

Providing example scans (maybe as part of the manual) can help regarding amount of photos/orientations and reconstruction settings.

Add jumpers for microstepping

Currently the microstepping is wired to 16th microstepping and cannot be changed. Adding jumpers to the corresponding pins would allow to switch to different stepping modes.

Make the starting position for scans chosable via the knob

Right now you have to move the turntable into the desired position and then start the scan via the knob.

The press of the knob is the moment the motors get activated.

It would be more comfortable if this "configuration step" could be performed via the knob.

Change STEC12E08 Rotary Encoder a module

A good candidate is the KY-040 rotary encoder module. It allows a better mounting of the rotary encoder.

In addition the arduino library used for interacting with the rotary encoder should be changed since the one currently used is very basic compared to others.

Light control not always working as intended

In some situations the lights are not turned off even though they should be.

This holds true at least for the following states:

  • When a print gets aborted
  • When the lights are turned on in the debug menu and the debug menu is exited.

UI errors during scan

During the scan the "Taking photo:" line is not centered and in reality the number of photos taken is shown, not the number of the next photo taken.

Add a one page flyer

Since the manual is quite big (>30 MB right now) it is difficult to view for people with limited (mobile) connection. Some kind of flyer/product page could increase this since the Open3DScanner has no own website.

Add some kind of diffuser to the light

The LED stip is distributed on a good area and provides uniform light in this area, but the individual LEDs can create some shine on the scanned object. A diffuser could improve the light quality.
