What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. start with an xml file that has utf-8 encoding characters
2. run xmllint
3. all utf-8 chars turned into ?'s

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expectation is preservation of charset.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Latest, windows 7

Please provide any additional information below.

If XML is invalid, the program currently prints a stack trace.

It would be nice to have the XML formatted till the time it got error.

From the XMLLint man page: 

The xmllint program parses one or more XML files, specified on the command 
line as XML-FILE (or the standard input if the filename provided is - ).

1. Run xmllint-1.0.exe with a non-existent file


What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The application should probably just print an error message and terminate 
instead of throwing an unhandled exception.

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
