DIRECT GEOCODING REQUEST

DIRECT GEOCODING
http://api.openweathermap.org/geo/1.0/direct?q={CITY_NAME}&limit={LIMIT}&appid={API_KEY}

REVERSE GEOCODING
http://api.openweathermap.org/geo/1.0/reverse?lat={LATITUDE}&lon={LONGITUDE}&limit=5&appid={API key}

Geocoding is the process of transformation of any location name into geographical coordinates, and the other way around (reverse geocoding).

If you use the limit parameter in the API call, you can cap how many locations with the same name will be seen in the API response.

The Direct Geocoding API and the Reverse Geocoding API returns a list of locations correponding to the seach query. each object in the list have the properties below

Field Description Data Type Sample Data
name Name of the found location String London
local_names Localized names of the location in different languages Object { "ms": "London", "gu": "લંડન", ... }
- [language code]: Name of the found location in a specific language String "ms": "London", "gu": "લંડન", ...
lat Latitude of the found location Number 51.5073219
lon Longitude of the found location Number -0.1276474
country Country of the found location String GB (United Kingdom)
state (where available) State or region of the found location (if available) String England
