Wie von Nikolai beschrieben. Den 1KOhm Widerstand zwischen Arduino und MP3 Modul aus der TX Leitung entfernen und in die RX Leitung einbauen -> knattern weg. ;)
Eine gemeinsame Stromquelle allein behebt das Problem zumindest in meinem Fall nicht.

Das knattern beginnt übrigens sobald ich Pin 25 am MP3 Modul mit D3 verbinde.

Ist der USB-Port das MP3-Moduls auf der linken Seite? Vielleicht stimmt die Pinbelegung nicht. Im Make-Magazin ist z.B. eine andere aufgeführt.

USB Port ist wie in deiner Anleitung beschrieben, rechts (zeigt Richtung Nano). Links ist der MicroSD Slot.
Alle Bilder bei Google nach Q6500-P28 zeigen einen identisches Pinlayout. Hast du ggf. eine Grafik aus dem Make-Magazin oder einen Link?
Lautsprecher an sich funktionieren einwandfrei. Ebenso wird das MP3-Modul sauber am PC erkannt. Der Nano scheidet als Fehlerquelle egtl. auch aus. Ein identisch konfigurierter zeigt das selbe "knattern".

Da könnte ein Problem liegen: Ich verwende eine andere Pinnummerierung, als jene im Make (die stammt von der Redaktion). Bei mir liegt Pin 1 links neben dem USB-Anschluss. So wie in der Grafik sollte es aber klappen.
Hast Du mal versucht, nur das Modul zusammen mit einem Arduino und einem 8-Ohm-Lautsprecher zu betreiben?

Selbst nur arduino und mp3 Modul in der Konfiguration (https://github.com/sleemanj/JQ6500_Serial/blob/master/README.md#jq6500_serial) geht nicht.
Klar es gibt hier kein knattern aber halt auch kein anderes audio out.

Hm. Vielleicht ist das Modul auch einfach kaputt?
Schick mir doch eine Mail mit einem Foto eines Minimalaufbaus, also nur Arduino und Modul samt eines Sketches zum Abspielen einer einzelnen Datei an meine Adresse: [email protected]

Update zum Issue:
Der Widerstand an D2 muss an D3! Allerdings trat das Knattern nicht bei allen Nutzern auf, teilen sich der Arduino und das Modul dieselbe Spannungsquelle, wie es in der Schaltung auch vorgesehen ist, verschwindet die Störung. Hoffentlich.
Nun aber ist es richtig: D3 -> Widerstand -> RX.
