As long as your Template has a NIC, the recent update (14.0) that allows selecting a VLAN should solve this issue.

Update 14 hasn't been working when I try it with Storage DRS it causes RecommendDatastores to fail.

The API for selecting a network adapter is pretty horrible, can you post a stacktrace?

It's crashing in code that hasn't been promoted for a pull request yet.
I'll put up a stacktrace on Monday, it relates to RecommendDatastores raising parse failure and reporting access failure.
