No output when using with node.js

I've used restart for some time but when I recently decided to run npm update restart is no longer working as intended. The only output when I run it is

(re)starting!

even though I have plenty of logging in my code that is visible when I run my app via node [appfilenamehere].

I've tested restart on a separate server with the same problem occuring.

OS: Debian 7 (Wheezy)
Node.js version: 0.10.26
NPM version: 1.4.7
Restart version: 0.0.4
