This one is not specific to openrewrite/rewrite-docs, or even openrewrite/rewrite, but can rather be applied to the whole GitHub organization through a new repository at https://github.com/openrewrite/.github . We can add any of the supported file types such as CONTRIBUTING.md, which will then apply to all projects rather than require a copy in each.

Most notably it'd be helpful to add issue templates, to allow contributors a pick between bugs, feature/recipe requests or other templates.
Templates can provide helpful hints before submitting an bug, to for instance include the versions of OpenRewrite & modules, Maven/Gradle plugin, Java & OS, which recipe was run, and any stacktraces and relevant troublesome file contents. This should serve to make the reported issues directly actionable, rather than having to ask for further details before troubleshooting can start.
