doing_data_science's Issues

NYT API has changed

One of the exercises (3rd edition) uses the NYT web API for fetching articles to analyse.

  1. The URL for the API has changed (it is now v2 and at a slightly different path)
  2. The API no longer seems to return body text, which greatly reduces its usefulness
  3. Even where there are fields that could be useful (abstract, section name), they don't always appear to be included in the data

While it loses the "using an API" aspect, it would be helpful to provide a pre-canned data set to replace the exercise.

Code for Programs

Is the code zip file supposed to only include the sample data and no code from the book? If so, is the actual code implemented in the book available for download?

Media 6 Degrees (chapter 5) data does not match code

The R code for the Media 6 Degrees exercise in chapter 5 starts with the following:

set <- read.table(file, header = TRUE, sep = "\t", row.names = "client_id")

The sample data contains no column called "client_id". This results in a crash from the following:

Error in data[[rowvar]] :
attempt to select less than one element in get1index
Calls: read.table

Example code?

I may be missing something but I cannot see any example code anywhere in this repository. The zip file only contains the datasets. Could someone please point me to where to code is? Thanks
