Yes, especially when a JRE is ~50M and the average Java app w/JARs is another 20+M.

Correct. Bellsoft needs to update and publish a new builder.

Alternatively, you can switch to using the Paketo builder and have Java 21 now. Run pack config default-builder paketobuildpacks/builder-jammy-tiny or add the -B paketobuildpacks/builder-jammy-tiny option to your pack build command.

The Paketo builder is based on Ubuntu Jammy and the tiny variant is a less-than 20M, hardened base image for your Java apps.

In the end, I came up with the same solution, but I hoped for Alpaquita since it weighs only 7 Mb, if I recall correctly.

It is not that critical though, ~12 Mb's are not a big difference.
