Are certain websites a distraction? SelfRestraint is a cross platform application which blocks access to websites for a predetermined period of time. It can not be undone by the app or by a restart – you must wait for the timer to run out.

selfrestraint's Issues

For use in OS X

Is there a .app compiled application for OS X yet?
Or, at least can anyone point to instructions to use this in a OS X from source?

Add an option to lock windows host file

I believe there should be an option to lock windows host file during the whole self control period,
as the app is useless for people who know how this app works.

Program Stops

The program is stopping as soon as I hit "Start"... but the websites are still being blocked. Even after the time I tried to set it for is up.

Linux binary has a hardcoded path

I tried running the version of SelfRestraint I downloaded from your website and got this

joel@arch Downloads $ ./SelfRestraint
Script not started as root. Running sudo..
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "<string>", line 218, in <module>

I don't have a /home/parkerkuivila/ ;)

Timer sometimes is infinite

Various reports have been filed that the timer keeps going past the chosen time and the program won't end

Main window does not appear on Windows 10 64 bit Pro, build 19041

I used to be able to use this without issue on Windows 10 64 bit.

Now when I launch it I can see the exe in task manager, but the usual app window does not pop up on screen anywhere.

Did I do something stupid somewhere? Has anyone else had this issue? Was it caused by some recent update to Windows?

Can't change default time on Windows 7 32-bit

I tried to change default timer by following FAQ rubrics
defaults write org.eyebeam.SelfControl MaxBlockLength -int [maximum block length in minutes]
defaults write org.eyebeam.SelfControl BlockLengthInterval -int [block length interval in minutes]

But it seems this is a copy from Self Control app not for Self Restraint.

How to change default timer?

Nothing happens on Windows 7 x64

I don't really know why, but nothing appears to happen. I downloaded just the executable from the downloads page, and then the entire repo as a .zip. In both cases, I'm just using the bundled executable, but nothing happens.

If I run it from cmd.exe, %ERRORLEVEL% is 0.
If I run it from cygwin/bash, $? is 127.

Do I need to build it myself?

Allow for whitelist blocking

There is no solution on Windows for whitelist blocking (listing of allowed sites). This feature would make selfrestraint far better.

The .exe does not open

I open the .exe but it displays "not responding" and never opens the program

OS: Windows 10

will it ever unblock?

set it to block for 24 hrs, it won't unblock, and i can't seem to uninstall the programme. any help?

Timer resets to 24 hours upon completion

The timer on this app automatically resets to 24 hours after it has finished the designated time. This has happened twice out of the 5-6 times I have used this program.

I can't turn it off

The timer disappeared after a restart and now all sites on my blacklist are permanently blocked. Reopening the program only allows me to start the process from scratch. What do I do? Please help.

I can't use some websites

I used selfrestraint yesterday because I got a big test today. After the test today, I tried to use twitch.tv which I blocked before, but when I press enter,it didn't came up. I then realised that maybe connected to yesterday's first use which I rebooted my computer during started timing. Then I used many ways like deleting the selffrestraint and refreshing the twitch page but it didn't work
