How to build the source into binary ? The Makefile refers to some non-existent head.mk and tail.mk files

What is the purpose of the sprite example, which occurs just before the final clear screen function? I do not see any affect on the screen in a VirtualII emulator (the other portions of the demo, which draws colored lines and clears the screen, do appear to work).
