pdc-testing's Introduction

PeeringDB

tests CodeQL codecov

PeeringDB provides a scalable way to publish interconnection related information for tens of thousands of network operators. Over the years, more and more organisations have built integrations to streamline their interconnection processes.

The source code powering PeeringDB is publicly available under a BSD 2-Clause license.

We anticipate that work considered to be "low hanging fruit" could be taken on by volunteers, and we expect that open sourcing the platform makes it easier for third parties to participate in bidding for new features specified by the Product Committee.

Developers in the community may fork the code, create a container for development and testing, and submit pull requests.

pdc-testing's Issues

Automate signups

We should allow signups to be less manual. Ideally as a Network Operator I should be able to go to peeringdb, authenticate as someone official at that ASN and be signed up without a peeringdb admin's help.
This will relieve load on support staff and encourage users to get setup.

Track which facilities have fiber run between them

  1. Inter-building cross connects
  2. Campus/Local cross connects - as low cost as 1, presumably as easy to do.
  3. Cross connects between two facilities w/o having to run your own WDM gear. Presumably comes at a higher cost/difficulty than the campus style.
  4. Dark fiber already exists between these facilities - just bring your own WDM gear.

It'd be great if we could capture all 4 categories and allow people to note that facility A and facility B are connected/connectable via one (or more) of these categories. Some sort of intersection table with a category column and comments to give more details.

One could then use the data to build a list of the facilities you could be in to get to ASN X in $location with increasing difficulty as you went down the list. Filling in the data, however, might be a pain that nobody's willing to do unless there was a good incentive to do so.
