Is not right. Only the original POST / GET response time is taken into account
If you need to have the real response time reported, you need to do modify it before reporting as:

 resp.locust_request_meta["response_time"] += timediff
 resp.success()

where timediff is

 timediff = 1000 * (time.monotonic() - result_startt)

Maybe you wanted to raise failure for the polling request, which is declared as:
r = self.client.get('/things/' + id)
So the result may look so:

while time.monotonic() < end_time:
...
    async_failure('POST /things/ID - async', start_time, r, 'Failed - timed out after %s seconds' % timeout)

Where post_resp -> r
